Messi

But I don't really get why people prefer him (apart from the ladies maybe?). He's obviously impressive and I'm not saying he's boring to watch. But he just doesn't take your breath away like Messi does.

What about gay men and non-binary people though?

Ronaldinho took my breath away more than both, but he wasn't as good a player. I think it is possible to look at Ronaldo and 'prefer' certain elements of his game. I used to love watching Messi from 2006-2014ish, but after that I started to feel a little bit like 'seen it all before wish someone would just tackle him'.

True. I could well be wrong. I just think he’s gonna have fans on his back from the get go if one of his first actions were to upset Messi and Messi leaves. Although the main reason Messi will leave is more to do with president and the squad itself. I just feel it will be a huge job for him but someone has to do it and you never know I suppose. He has said De jong and Griezmann will play big parts
I think he's popular there though, fans will give him time etc. Mind, not as popular as Xavi.

I'm a huge Tennis fan too....but I personally think Rafa is better than Roger ...I just think if Rafa had the opponent's Roger faced in his early career, he'd be on 20+ slams easy (Philippoussis, Safin, Roddick, Hewitt, an aging Agassi, Baghdatis etc was a very easy era compared to the era Rafa started)....I would even go as far as saying Novak deserves a massive mention because he's amassed 17 slams during the era of Rafa & Roger. Simply a staggering record, and I don't think he's finished at 17 slams neither! Can see him surpassing Roger's record to be honest.

I do love watching Federer glide across the court mind. He's incredible.

I've went off topic now, but must say, this era of tennis has been breathtaking and one that will be very hard to be matched in any future.

For the tennis I was talking more about who was best to watch. I can't split Novak, Nadal or Federer. Novak arguably better than both. But Fed the most entertaining for me.

In Federers defence he only started winning slams 2 years before Nadal did (Nadal hit that level at a younger age). However Nadal struggled on anything other than clay for a while which is probably why it feels like they started in a different era. Nadal is also "lucky" that his strengths are directly opposed to Federer's weaknesses. If he'd been a righty I think it could have been a very different story.

All three incredible though and there's no-one obvious coming through. The next gen guys don't seem to have that mental strength or consistency. Yet.

Got to feel slightly for the likes of Murray, Wawrinka and Del Potro too. Any other era and they'd have won a lot more slams. Credit to them that they've achieved what they have.

Is there a risk here that Messi will tarnish his Barca legacy a little? If there's a big legal wrangling and he 'diddles' them out of a transfer fee?

Possibly, but I think it would be very short sighted of them.

They've had the best player in the world for 15 years of his career, and they've won trophies in all but 2 of those seasons, very few players stay somewhere that long in the modern game.

The individual qualities are comparable. Messi’s finesse vs Ronaldo physicality etc

The individual stats are comparable also.

But the difference is - Messi is a better team player.

A team of Messi’s would dominate a team of Ronaldos. The Messi’s would play triangles all day, too comfortable on the ball. Perfect touch, ridiculous vision etc. They’d literally be walking around knocking it to each other for fun.

I love the tennis too and am firmly in the Federer camp when it comes to Nadal. Also really appreciate Djokovic as a player too though don't warm to him personally.

I think it is truly a great era for tennis and really feel for Andy Murray because in most other eras I believe he'd have won far, far more.

Not the case at all, every Barça fan knows Messi is doing what he has to do because he's been let down by Barça and their presidency massively, Barça owes everything to Messi and he owes nothing to them. That's why I think he's doing this to get Bartomeu to resign before the March elections, if he resigns Messi will stay.

I read a report about that this morning.

Very interesting.

It's incredible how much power Messi has at Barcelona, but to be honest, he's warranted it for what he's achieved there.

On the Ronaldo vs Messi debate - Just imagine if Ronaldo had been on the HGH too 🤷‍♂️

For that to come in to the equation, Ronaldo would have needed a reason to take them in the first place, and then everything about his game would be different as he'd be a lot shorter and lot less powerful.

Messi is only 5ft 7" after treatment for a genetic disorder.
Ronaldo is 6ft 2".

it is stupid comments like this that always turn these threads sour. Ronaldo fans biggest way of defending Ronaldo is by coming up with Messi flaws or perceived deficiencies. Messi fans just compliment Messi and tell everyone what he is good at.
