Mesh Wifi system ?

Ive built a log cabin/bar at the end of my garden and was hoping to watch plenty of sport in there. Ive got 350meg Virgin broadband but the signal keeps buffering. Ive got a booster off Virgin but its made no difference. Would a Mesh wifi system help me ? Cheers

Run a weatherproof cat 5 or cat 6 cable to the cabin if you can. Mesh wifi uses several wifi acccess points to cover an area so not much different to your wifi booster I think.

The difficulty with mesh wifi is it needs to connect to another node in order to rebroadcast the signal. if you cant get a good connection AT the cabin, mesh wifi wont have anything to boost.

I would do as said above and run some CAT5, especially if you're going to stream anything 4k (doubly so if local playback and not Netflix)

Wifi has its uses (phones etc) but given any choice I would always take cable.

Exactly what I have but also have mush setup using the cat6 backhail orbis..

If i put a couple of nodes on the route from the hub to the cabin would they not continously boost the signal up ? Cheers

I had a booster of virgin which wasn’t great so I got a mesh system with 3 nodes. I can now get a good wifi signal 30m away from the house in the garden. It’s actually the node I’ve positioned upstairs that provides the signal to the garden.

Yep, same here. 3 node mesh intended for a more stable connection in the office in the attic, but happy by-product is it now extends signal into the garden much better than before

Yes but they generally are indoor devices and each gets plugged into a socket

You might pay £50+ per node and a 20m Ethernet run can be had for about £20

WiFi, especially at range, will never beat cable for speed and stability.

Also each mesh node will ideally connect to the master node. Where it can’t, and it has to have a jump to a sub-node, bandwidth will reduce

actually I forgt it needed to go outside so that linked one is probably not right for you, I needed it to run from one end of my house through the attic and into an extension

Deco M4 mesh ( 3 pack) is the ideal solution. I changed to this system for a similar issue ( summer house (currently my office) in back garden approx 20m from house) . This resolved all my buffering issues. Just bear in mind if you have multiple Ethernet connections you may need a hub / switch for a back haul.
Much better then WiFi boosters as this manages WiFi channels to prevent cross channel interference.

If you can’t just run an Ethernet cable, Powerline could well be your answer as long as your cabin runs on the same power circuit as the house. If not, I’d look into using a good quality outdoor POE Wi-Fi access point.
