Mendes in the money

Mendes the super agent earns a nice little £6million for the transfer of his client Fabio Silva to Wolves. Thing is, he's NOT Silva's agent! Scratching my head on this one, whilst bemoaning, again, the fact that money is going out of the game into golden bank accounts...

and this is why football needs a good sort out. agents making more money in one deal than half the championships transfer budget put together

Tell Simon Jordan.... He loves agents😂

What's more baffling is paying 35mil for a guy who's made 1 senior appearance. That's some scouting to see that much in him.

It’s very murky what happening at wolves. Ever wondered why a champions league player joined a championship side and how none of their players are ever looking to move on.

it’s all very odd

All players should be registered with the PFA, all “agents” should work for and be salaried by the PFA. If a club wants a player or a player wants a move, they should contact the PFA, an “agent” appointed who will facilitate the terms of the agreement and contract.

agents in the current role are an absolute cancer on the game.

Can anyone explain then, as I can't get it, if he's not Silva's agent, then why is he entitled to that money? Does he own the club or something?

My understanding is he's employed by Wolves to act as their agent during the transfer to negotiate the best deal for Wolves. Think presumably entitles him to a slice of the pie.

I agree with you it's completely screwy, agents should be employed by the player only and the player should pay them out of their own pocket, this percentage of the deal cobblers is chucking millions out of the game to these leeches.

From the guardian 2017

When Wolverhampton Wanderers unveiled as their new coach Nuno Espírito Santo, the first client of the globe-bestriding Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes, the club denied that Mendes had garnered an excessive influence in their transfer dealings.
Wolves’ managing director, Laurie Dalrymple, acknowledged that Mendes was a “known associate” and friend of the club’s Chinese owner, but said it would be against football rules for an agent to be in charge of recruitment. Mendes’s role is advisory, he said: “Someone, because of the friendship with the owners, that we take opinions and advice from.”
Mendes’s relationship with the Fosun conglomerate, which bought the club last summer from the house-building magnate Steve Morgan, goes beyond friendship and advice: they have a business partnership and Mendes has been central to Fosun’s moves into football.
