Media conference

once we start winning and get the feel good factor back I'm sure this will change, but right now it's "can't we just avoid this?"

One positive to come out of it is matt clarke has no future here { "managing him thru his next steps" ).

How should Carrick perform in these conferences? Crying and begging for divine intervention? Shouting at the press and elements of fans for wetting their knickers? Singling out individuals for poor performances? I think he’s got the balance right.. he knows it’s not going well but he can’t say he doesn’t know what to do to change things… he’s got to keep level headers right up until the moment Gibson pulls the trigger or the team start performing… even then I’m sure he won’t get too excited..

I think the textbook approach to these press conferences, as seen by previous managers, is to moan about recruitment, make sure you strongly imply your players aren't good enough and leave no-one in any doubt that none of it could possibly be your fault.

Throwing in a few references to your CV helps too.

Lot to learn that Carrick fella.

Why didn't he say then he was looking forward to him being involved in the team again I think he couldn't have made it clearer that Matt will be gone by Jan bet your house on it.

Because he's probably long way off being back to full fitness, and nobody wants to rush him back after a year out with injury.

Clarke has 2 years left on his contract, plus the option for another year.
There's plenty of time to get him up to speed without risking a recurrence of his back injury.

Not really sure why you've had it in for Clarke since we signed him, you spent most of last season acting like you thought the injury was made up and that Carrick just didn't rate him.

Never thought I'd ever be writing this but ....... If you want to watch/listen to an interesting and insightful press conference then it's worth checking out Tony Mowbray's at Sunderland, particularly the latest one from yesterday. I always thought they were as dull as ditchwater when he managed here but he seems to have upped his game a level or two. Always gives a very honest and thoughtful answer to some of the bland questions posed, which makes it quite watchable, unlike the mundane tripe served up at our weekly presser.

Mogga has really come into his own.. we saw the master of pressers under Neil Warnock.

Carrick is very calm collected and reserved.. he will not give an inch.. a wee bit Steve McClaren.. a bit Gareth Southgate.. very much Alex Fergusson.. he doesn't switch off.. it's all part of the same thing thing. Although.. Mickey Tightlips might be a nickname with some traction..

How many on here believe Clarke has a future here when we are after buying more replacements for his position & he was hopeless when he got his chance with us which carrick must have watch the vt on his games for us.

Mogga was always great value for me at Boro. At times absolutely inspiring.
But sometimes I would return home to read people ripping him apart for saying "it is what it is.." etc.
I think it really depends on how well the team is playing as to whether people enjoy the manager's message.

What replacements? No one wants to put any pressure on a player that has been out so long injured. It sounded like Dom Shaw has been writing a feature on Clarke for the Northern Echo.
But the operation last season was very costly and the club believed a big investment in a player they believe in.
