Meanwhile in the US, the GOP look united

Not.
Poor old Kevin McCarthy has lost his 3rd vote in his quest to replace Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the house.
The seedy right of the party including Greasy Gates and Marjorie Taylor Nutjob are holding up his required 218 votes and it's even got so bad that Jim Jordan, the man accused of keeping silent over child abuse that was going on around him during his time as a college sports coach, has been nominated as an alternative.
Can't say I'm not enjoying them destroying themselves after the way they pandered to Trump and his cronies.

There is something completely insane that the person who is 'holding McCarthy to account' is Matt Gaetz - currently under investigation for buying sex with underage girls, while the whole performative objection is designed to curry favour with twice impeached, currently under criminal investigation former president Trump.

6 defeats now and even Trump is calling on them to end the farce. Despite the Fuhrer's plee, representative Lauren Bobert has said Trump should tell McCarthy to step down, so no sign of Bobert and her gang of her right-wing lunatics giving way.
You might think "so what", but this has echoes of our very own ERG wagging the tail of Tory party.

Went for the 'lucky 7' and failed yet again. Its the anniversary of their greatest moment tomorrow. They might tear the place apart to celebrate.

Getting ready for vote number 10 now.
Its great entertainment specially the nomination process every time they have a vote.
Live on BBC news , great background listening.

Are any of them actually changing their vote or are they just going around in circles?
O is it a plot to make Trump speaker somehow?

Well Trump has just been nominated for the 11th ballot by the alleged paedophile Gaetz, so you could be right.
This is hilarious.

Trump got 1 vote, he's done as far as leader of the GOP as far as I can see.
The 16 or so who are going against McCarthy are doing so after Trump told them to get behind him.
It's like an abusive father realising those little lads that he used the belt on are now bigger than him and they're no longer scared of what he will do.
It's actually great for the Democrats as the failure to elect a speaker just means that as every day and every failed vote goes by, their policies remain in place and the lunatics aren't legislating.

12 defeats now, despite swaying some representatives. Those pesky 7 'Never Kevin' voters look to be holding out.
It's getting into Cleveland Browns or NY Jets territory now :)

As Colbert pointed out...

14 votes down
O dear….the lunatics in the asylum are in danger of being found out ?
Was only a matter of time for the GOP extremists to implode in to their far right nazism. I mean, Majorie Taylor greene voted in by the USA public ?
She’s so extreme they deserve everything they get….

In on the 15th vote thanks to the rebels voting 'present' and lowering the threshold.
Minority leader Jefferies then rapped the entire alphabet brilliantly in his speech while lame duck McCarthy vowed that his first act would be to repeal the appointment of thousands of IRS agents. No doubt at the behest of his donors who don't want to lose billions by paying taxes that'll help fund programs for ordinary Americans.

Ah the far right mantra of avoiding paying as much tax as possible and spend less on helping people without whilst at the same time enrich, help and protect those with.

Power of the people…
Small minority faction bribes moral coward of a candidate to an undeserving victory at significant cost to all the other voters. Not a great showing for democracy that.
