Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston today called on people across the borough to play their part in the fight against the deadly Coronavirus.
The move came as the Government dramatically stepped up its measures to slow the progress of the Covid-19 pandemic in a bid to cut the potential death toll.
In a sharp escalation, the public have been told to avoid non-essential contact with other people, and to steer clear of places like pubs clubs and theatres.
All unnecessary travel should be avoided, and people should work from home where possible.
Those developing symptoms should ‘self-isolate' for seven days if they live alone, and 14 days if they live with others.
Middlesbrough Council has now launched dedicated pages on Facebook and Twitter (@covid19boro) to provide the latest information and allow local residents to ask questions.
Mayor Preston said: "This pandemic is unprecedented in recent times, and it's going to affect each and every one of us, probably for many months to come.
"This is a rapidly developing situation, so it's incredibly important that people follow the advice from Government and Public Health England.

"We've launched a new Facebook page which people can go to for the latest information, and we'll do our best to answer people's questions. Full Press Release and Facebook Page etc
