Matt Le Tissier

I feel sorry for that tubes character that I see sometimes on SSn, he seems trapped as some perpetual 'lad' and he now looks about 50.
Seen a few vids of him on YouTube, think he's a recovering alcoholic, and certainly had some problems over the years. Seems to be getting better though, from when I last saw anyway.

I'm not a fan of Tim Lovejoy and I read the review of his book probably, say, at least two times a year on average but I think Martin Freeman doing that to him on his own show is a bit **** to be honest. He wore a Ramones t-shirt, so what. Freeman had nothing interesting to say about people suddenly wearing Ramones t-shirts, if he did it might've carried more weight. Instead he just made himself look like a nobhead.
That is a matter of opinion of course which I don’t share - thought the complete opposite. Prior to that clip Lovejoy was winding him up so Freeman gave it back.

I think you see things different to me too. Thought it was fantastic TV. Mind you I don’t like
Lovejoy either.

Fascinating how this thread morphed from talking about a bonkers ex footballer to talking about a smug and highly opinionated cooking show presenter.

I didn't know he was winding him up first, TBH. I actually have a vague memory of watching it when it went out, must be, what, 15 years ago? But I don't remember the exchange. Or anything else about the show at all. Apart from didn't he come on to open the show riding an old person's electric scooter? Which I think he'll have lifted from Steve Coogan doing Paul Calf. Anyway, I will stand by my earlier point about Martin Freeman for now I think.

Before everyone goes OTT about Matt Le Tissier what he may or may not be saying. God know what the bloke is going through. I heard that he was a youth player at Southampton around the same sort of time as some unsavoury types that should not have been involved in coaching kids.. I think we all know what I'm talking about here. Talk of him being a heavy drinker or perhaps formally having a drinking problem may well have been connected to this.

Lots of talk surrounding these issues starting to come to the surface again, if a player had experienced abuse anywhere near what has been mentioned then there would be little surprise is this was to negatively effect their mental health.

Plenty of ex-players going though issues after finishing with the game and struggling to come to terms with life after football. It's easy to write off folks just because they are high profile expecting that they have the necessary support structure around them to get themselves back on tract or simply dismiss that a formerly wealthy/high earning athlete should just get on with it like everybody else has to.

Nobody should just have to get on with if they are struggling regardless of their circumstances.

Isn't he on record as saying he only drinks Malibu and Coke? I'm sure I heard him say that somewhere.

I appreciate what you are trying to say but you could well argue that for any individual who puts up mdcap ideas on to their social media account could have issues and we should refrain from commenting.

Le Tissier should walk away from social media when he starts to upset people. He did just that by linking Ann Frank’s murder in the concentration camps with the argument to wear masks for example. You are not going to get people saying “oh just ignore him he is an ex footballer lacking support and recovering from a bout of alcoholism.” Le Tissier was a great footballer and led a privileged life of sorts. He is married with a family so he may well have a support function around him. Or plenty of friends to help him. I don’t know but to say don’t challenge him because of what he is I can’t agree with.
