Matt Clarke

I've felt from the moment it became obvious how Carrick wanted the team to play out from the back that he could be a perfect fit, given he's comfortable in posession and also stepping into midfield.

The only reservation is that we lack pace across the back line and he's ain't the quickest I don't think.

Let’s not forget…

“He was named as WBA’s Player of the Season for 2021–22, his fourth successive such award across three clubs.”

We didn’t sign this guy just to make up the numbers in the squad

Ain't the quickest is an understatement. Lumbering oaf would be more apt.

I recall that he had a good couple of games, but it seems a long time he has been injured, I dont expect he will be on the pace straight away, Should we be looking for a new centre half in January.

He looked good for one game then went rapidly downhill........
Still don't have a clue what his injury was, it could be that it was getting progressively worse at the beginning of last season, he seemed to start off good then was playing rubbish after that, then didn't play.

Nerve damage in your back is no small injury. He's very unfortunate to join a new club and pick that up in his first few appearances, unless our medical team missed it.
