Matt Clarke has become such an important player for Middlesbrough

He's definitely important at the moment, he's our only fit centre back. When others come back to fitness though...

He'd still be important to us.

He's got the shirt now, I don't see him losing it unless there's a real loss of form or an injury.

Lenihan hasn't played a competitive match in a year, Fry in 7 months, they're not going to come in and take the spot of somebody who's been largely excellent since coming in.

Van den Berg is ahead of them both too.

He has established himself as an important presence in the team.
He would take an awful lot of shifting in the Championship.

Or putting another way, it would be an absolute disaster if Clarke got injured now, as there is no cover. If we had a fully match fit Lenihan (I know), RVDB and Fry, would it be so much of a disaster?

Fry hasn’t played for a long time and when he did he’s been nowhere near the level of Clarke.

Clarke is right at the top of the championship tree in regards to centre backs for me. He’s on par with the best of them.

He would be a huge miss no matter who’s fit.
