Massimo Maccarone

Apologies to those who’ve heard this story before, I just like telling it.

I met Maccarone when he played for Brisbane against Adelaide here in Adelaide. (Adelaide play in red, so I wear a Boro top on occasions ... and made sure I did that night.)

Brisbane had just beat us and after the game I went down to near the Brisbane supporters. As he came over I called out his name, but he ignored me and walked past. So I called out “Middlesbrough” and as he turned around I said it again and pointed to my shirt. He walked over saying “Middlesbrough? I love Middlesbrough!” Really sincere.

I thanked him for Basel and Steaua and his great goals, took a quick photo, shook his hand and let him move on.

Never seen you write that story before but yeah that’s pretty cool, it’s good to see he enjoyed his time here!

Awesome tale that, thanks for sharing 👍

I bumped into him with Abel Xavier over Teesside Park (odd pairing). He was miffed at the time over not getting in the first team squad, despite some good showings in the cups.
