mass shootings on July 4th leave 20 dead

It's sad but everytime I hear of a mass shooting in the US I just think oh well another mass shooting in the US, I'm desensitised to it. Nothing will ever change until religious gun happy rednecks stop fearing everyone.
I'm further down the road than you because my reaction these days is f#ck em. It's sad for the berieved but it's not my problem and the country as a whole doesn't have the collective will to change anything.

What’s crazy to me is that a fair proportion of the victims and their bereaved families will also be gun owners and think this type of thing just vindicates their choice.

It's the American (NRA/MAGA) way - if I've a bigger gun than the bad guy, I'll "win".

Mental, f*cked up country

I'm sure there are millions of Americans who are vehemently opposed to gun ownership, always have been and always will be. Some will be bereaved as a consequence of the country's gun laws.
Let's not tar all Americans with the same brush, many don't deserve it.
