Mason Mount

Looked a fantastic prospect when he was on loan at Derby and played at the Riverside, but Wilson actually looked the better of the two that day.

They embarrassed us for 30 minutes after kick off, but we still managed a draw I think.

Was it Derby where he cut his teeth. Like many over the last 5 years, he looked a great loanee for the Championship but loads of those young types have fallen by the wayside. I cant remember him being super special then, but he has turned out to be a cracking player. Fair play to him

Footballer's footballer - and also teacher's pet, all his managers seem to love him. Keeps some very big name / reputation players out of the team for club and country.

He's great.

Does anybody else think we don't need both Henderson and Rice in the same team, or two similar for England in the starting eleven?
It just feels like we have some really talented midfield players who aren't going to go or play.
Mount is very good, but I really like Grealish. There's a chance neither will play which is strange to me.

Kalvin Phillips and Rice against San Marino is a shocker but a portent, I think Gareth’s sold on that double pivot. Big shame as like you say, so much talent elsewhere.

I agree against the smaller teams. But I think in bigger matches that if we play Rice we get a more 'Liverpool' Henderson - one who can drive and be a little more dynamic. Both the and Mount are also smart players so can press intelligently and we won't surrender midfield as we seemingly always do against stronger teams.

I agree. My midfield and forward line would be

Rice
Mount

Foden
Grealish
Sterling

Kane

There's a good chance Henderson will be well short of match fitness for the Euros anyway, I'm not sure I'd be starting him, only 8 games of the season left and he's not back from injury yet.

Henderson’s a fantastic footballer. He can do the lot. People think he’s limited, but that’s their problem :D

Hard choices innit! There’s a great thread to be made of ‘Pick your best England team for Euro 2021’. I agree though, no way am leaving Grealish out.
