Martin Payero what is the situation with him?

Can someone remind me again why we wouldn't be able to play him this season.. if we really needed to?
Because he wasn't registered as our player ( in the squad) prior to the last transfer window shutting. Outside of that can only sign free agents were not under contract when the window shut.

@Boro4life you not gonna explain why you think 27 goal man Chuba Akpom isn’t a proper no 10?
If he was a proper number 10 he’d have more assists

He’s more a deep lying forward than a traditional number 10.

Despite that we don’t need a number 10 because we play a false winger who does the number 10 role. McGree Ramsey and Hackney all doing that

He doesn’t have many assists but he is playing a lot of passes to wide because of his intelligent play dropping deep and then we are scoring from the crosses ( most of the time it’s himself on the end of it) whatever you want to call it, No 10, second striker, deep lying forward he is playing the role brilliantly and we certainly won’t be signing someone to play there unless he is sold.

Ye I’ve agreed with that, but I think the nuances of the positions is important.

We don’t play with a traditional 10, we want out creativity to come from a roaming player. Akpom job is drop deep link up play draw people in and give space to others. Once he’s linked play he job is to arrive in the box and score the goals

Akpom is doing a similar job to what Kane does at Spurs, playing like a 10 if you like but scoring the goals a number 9 would score.

Watching him drop deep on Wednesday night and playing balls into Jones who was on the run reminded me of Kane and Son and that could be a totally new dimension to our game.

Its absolute madness to even think about changing Chuba's position, Carrick even said in the post match interview that a lot of Akpom's chances come from arriving late into the box.

Yeah when he scores often it's like the opposition have no agency in the event, all they can do is just watch him execute.

If Payero goes back to Argentina, or Spain, or wherever he will just be another highly rated player who hasn't made it at Boro.

Can't have been easy for him, new country playing under Warnock and Wilder with their styles......maybe Carrick could get the best out of him?

Certainly interesting if he comes back and is given a chance. If he's sacked off, meh, the club have seen him and know better than us 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Don't think Payero is a number 10 in the traditional sense. He'd play in the Hackney role or perhaps further forward in the McGree role in our current setup.

Yes we gave him a number 10 shirt, but he is not a number 10, just like Rochemback wasn't a number 10 but a deep lying sweeper.

Yes. For Banfield and now for Boca he was playing on the right of a midfield 3. His best position seems to be as a hard-pressing #8 on the right. He *should* have been perfect for Wilder but, unluckily for Payero, Crooks was playing out of his bark in that position.

He doesn't really fit our current set-up. He *could* play the McGree role the way that Hackney has. No sign that he would be able to play the CM role in a 2 and he's definitely not a #10. He might have been a handy option for Carrick this season but given that Barlaser hasn't been able to get on the pitch I don't see Payero getting on ahead of Barlaser.

Scored and sent off tonight against Racing Club . He can obviously score goals from mf but always got that nasty South American instinct . Is he a risk or that bite in midfield we could do with in prem . Could see him nobbling few decent big name midfielders which would deffo go against him if at a little prem club like the Boro
