Martin Payero what is the situation with him?

I just feel in the Premier league Akpom has to be played upfront as not sure he will be able to do what he's doing in the number 10 role in the Premier league

Akpom was dreadful up front, he’s moved to this position and flourished. Why would you move him back?

I certainly wouldn't move him back, but even before Carrick took over when playing as a striker he looked much better than he had done previously.

Carrick has helped him to another level, no question. But I do think Chuba deserves a lot of credit for the work he's put in to turn around too. It's not all down to Carrick, all the signs were he was going to have a good season regardless of Carrick taking over or not. Carrick has probably just helped him turn good into great.

If Chuba had to play up front now he'd be unrecognisable from the player of previous seasons, he'd still look a quality player.

The problem with chuba now is he has the world at his feet will we be able to hold him also Carrick future is uncertain as alot of clubs will be looking for him come the end of the season including westham so chuba don't know who will be here next season to change it around again.

I think it's interesting with a potential new deal. I'm pretty sure I read he was on 27k a week already?

I mean how much more can we offer him? That's crackers money by most champo clubs standards.

I'd be suprised if Viktor Gyökeres is on 10k. Stewart is being offered 10k by Sunderland. That's a significant pay rise. So kinda puts 27k into perspective.

if he was not from argentina and was a player we bought from scotland, had the same appearances and went back on loan to scotland, no one would be bothered about him, asking for him back lol

Says the guy named after our on loan Brazilian

Warnock didn’t fancy Payero.. preferring Pelly Ruddock-Mpanzu instead. Rodrigo Muniz was kicked to the curb in favour of Yannick Bolasie. Whilst Chuba Akpom was lauded as our first choice striker Warnock made no secret soon after that Keiffer Moore was his preferred target, even going so far to say he could have won promotion had we signed him.,

Probably true! But the recruitment hasn’t been that far off.. infact a bit ahead of it’s time with Nmecha and Balogun.

Has patience worked in our favour? The squad is looking pretty special at the moment.. think I’d prefer this model to a super Cardiff kick machine battling at the bottom of the prem.

Good things come to those who wait?

I can't really see how we can hang on to Akpom beyond next season unless we get promoted and can offer him significantly more. If that happened I could see him signing an extension.

If we don't go up, someone will offer daft money this summer that we can't turn down given his contract situation, or they will wait to see if he can do it for two seasons on the bounce and/or try to pick him up for free next summer.

Players' stock can fall pretty quickly, especially in this division. What would we get for Jones now? This time last year we'd have been talking about £20m or something.

Incidentally, I think Fry will be off either way.

If we get promoted I’d think that most of the first team squad will stay unless there’s options available on players who are out of contract.

I think the squad lacks depth of course but it’s the chemistry of the squad which seems so much a part of why we are where we are right now.

The main issue is if we can keep some of our high performers who are loaners, this is obviously a huge problem for the management, although you could argue that they’ll have a plan in place for this situation.

Brexit made it much easier to sign players from South America. You can get a permit for someone just because they have appearances for international youth teams now, or if they have a few appearances in high ranking leagues which may include Brazil and Argentina, it's been a while since I played footy manager so I can't quite remember.
Anyhow the club were obviously trying to exploit this. That was prior to kieron Scott joining. Given that our last three from South American leagues have been a flop (de Pena, payero, Muniz) I think we will be looking in a different direction.

Regarding renewals, in June there are 2 players who expire their bond: Payero: Your loan expires. He has to return to Middlesbrough, owner of his pass. The purchase option is $6 million

. There were still no contacts to renew. For that figure it seems very difficult to continue.

Can someone remind me again why we wouldn't be able to play him this season.. if we really needed to?
