Mark Drakeford resigns with immediate effect

It’s not a surprise he literally gave five years notice. Also it’s not with immediate effect as he’s staying on until his successor is in place. Fair play to him I think he’s done a decent job for them.
Well he leaves behind the worst healthcare system in the UK, the poorest education system and a transport system that is a joke. If this is doing well - I'd hate to see what a bad job would have been! All while getting more per head of population than England. He was a master of doing more with less and blaming Westminster. Having lived in South Wales for 25 years I am not sad to see him go!

Odd as he's the most popular Welsh leader in history, all the polls tell you that!

Contrary to the old cliche I’ve always believed in this country most politics is national. It’s easy for a local labour leader to be popular in the face of the most unpopular Tory government in Westminster in a generation (and the most unpopular since devolution). That’ll be 90% of it. They’re even leading in Scotland these days.

Yes your correct of course, local politics does depend a huge amount on the favours and fortunes of national politics. 2019 Middlesbrough elected its first ever majority of none Labour councillors, the same time the Tories won a 80+ seat majority. So yes your right, but it's not always about national swings, Wales have always had a Labour first minister, even with a Labour government, and of course Andy Street and even our own Houchen are bucking the trends, Houchen mainly because his TVCA employ an army of professional PR people from our area's budget who spend more time upping him than our area.
