Marcus Tavernier

Young lad plays for Boro for years, is paid little, grows into one of our best players, then gets sold and generates at the very least a £10m profit for our club.
Apparently not enough for some to stop them from attacking him and hoping he does badly.
See also Ben Gibson £15m, Djed Spence £12.5m.

Some are saying he has made a bad move - and they may be proven right - but I can't get my head around some who are relishing in his possible discomfort.

It's just fans who don't understand football.

He's gone from being one of our best players, to being one of Bournemouth's best players, in the best league in the world.

Probably taking home 10k more every week, living on the south coast, playing against some of worlds best footballer every week... and Bournemouth fans will probably appreciate what he brings to their club, something a lot of our fans never did.

He was one of my favourite players and I don't wish him any particular ill will on a personal level but I'm always happy to see players that force through a move against the club's wishes fall on their face even if we do make a big profit. I know it's tribal and petty but supporting a football team is. I've no idea if it's a good move for him and I'm sure he's happy to be playing in the Premier League and having a massive pay hike but I'd quite like him to look back one day and say "I wish I'd stayed at the Boro". Completely unrealistic to think that we won't lose our good players to the Premier League given our standing in the game but I don't care about that. 🤷‍♂️

He is living rent free in peoples heads, looks like we'll get match by match tav and spence updates with both no doubt rueing their big money moves when they could have been getting dumped out of the cup and held by stoke.

There's a difference... Djed Spence, I think he's a tool and I hope he drops back down to the championship.

Marcus Tavernier showed nothing but loyalty to us, clearly loved playing here, and he deserves to be playing in the premier league.

He wanted to move the season before and Warnock convinced him to stay for one more season believe it was widely reported? He'd already made his intentions clear in that case. You have to take your chances while they exist; he might have had a stinker for us and finished mid table and then his suitors vanish

"Marcus Tavernier showed nothing but loyalty to us"

Right up to the point he instructed his agent to tell us he wanted to leave. I'm not arguing with your other points and he remained professional while engineering his move which is to his credit. I'm not saying it's logical and I probably would have made the same decision. Still hope he regrets leaving though. 😁

Footballer gets chance to step up to the next level, the top division. He's going to take that chance, could get a career threatening injury, anything can happen. I completely understand why Tav and Spence moved when they did - In normal life away from football, if you get offered a new job and more pay, then 99% of people see it as an opportunity to progress and will take it.

Every proper footballer will have ambitions to play in the premier league. He promised us one more year under Warnock, probably hoping we'd get to the premier league and he could have stayed.

He has a career to think about. You can doubt whether he has chosen wisely with Bmuff but it does put him up against PL players and teams every week. If nothing else if he does well he will be able to move on to another PL club if Bmuff flounder. If he doesn't he'll be back in the Championship but with a few extra quid in his bank. He could have done a Fletcher or a Yakubu, he didn't and we got a decent wedge for him. No hard feelings from me.

Love Tav, grat player for us and hope he flourishes in the prem. Can't see how this is a bad career move how some have said, he is playing every week in the prem and got a 5 year contract making him a millionaire many times over. If he absoluteley flops he will be back exaclty where he was before his move, Just considerably more wealthy, experienced and having played in some huge games.

Bournemouth were always going to have a tough season - even if they do / did well: 1st season is about getting points on the board..

Tav playing against 3 of the best teams in Europe, never mind EPL, they would always be on the wrong end of the stats..

They shouldn't be judged on results v Liverpool & Man City esp... owner is a Doyle..

he wasn't sacked because of the results

He is living rent free in peoples heads,
I am not sure he is, its more likely that in 10 years time, most people wont even recall his time at Boro, as he will either have gone on to bigger and better things or will have faded away (just like Spence will, and just like many ex-boro players have over the years)

He has been one of their best players, it’s proving a good move for him so far. That’s all he has to do is keep performing at that level and he will get a better move if Bournemouth don’t stay up.

Most players won't be recalled in 10 years time apart from now and then, we don't have any Juninho or ravanelli characters that people will typify as legends down the line, at least not right now. Almost our entire team 10 years ago were fairly unremarkable. We don't even get threads on people like Britt, although we do Braithwaite but he is another that lives rent free.

However he is living rent free because we get a thread after every game and people keep saying he's made the wrong choice despite playing football at a higher level against better players and teams than he would if he stayed.

People are adamant we are a better club than Bournemouth despite the last 10 years of champo and prem performance, and current leagues, saying otherwise. If he stayed with us and we went up then at beat he's in the same position but a year behind in his career development
