So Doncaster, a minor airport, struggles in the shadow of a bigger and better neighbour less than one hour away. Even Ryanair have given up on it.
Local politician on an ego trip decides it would be viable within a few years if someone would just cough up £100m.
Remind you of anything?

Doncaster was mainly just used by TUI.

Do you mean Manchester or East Midlands?

Cos the budget-focused T3 at Manchester is the worst airport terminal in the world.
 
I would have thought Leeds/Bradford is about 42 miles from Doncaster.

Doncaster will have Leeds, Manchester, East Midlands all within 70 miles, plus minor Humberside Airport.
 
Are local airports often regarded by politicians as some sort of virility symbol? It seems that sometimes common sense goes out of the window when they're discussed.
I don't mind travelling as long as I get a convenient flight.

Sadly it got Houchen elected 3 times, not surprised that others are looking closely.
