Me and the Wife are off to Manchester Thursday/Friday next week.

We’re seeing Gaslight Anthem on
Friday at The O2 but getting to Manchester around midday Thursday.

It’s a good few years since I’ve been to Manchester so not a clue about the best bars / restaurants to go to. I imagine we’ll be spoilt for choice but any recommendations appreciated.

We’re staying 5 minutes from Piccadilly Station, a short walk from The Northern Quarter (suggested by a mate) but don’t mind a bit of a walk or using The tram etc.

Ideally like bars with decent beers / craft ales etc.

Bundobust is deffo a favourite. But you're here for a couple of days so a couple more suggestions:

Another shout would be Mackie Mayor. Loads of choice inside, good food outlets set around central communal seating. The ramen place is quality.

Cheap eats around lunch time, get into the food court (not the KFC, maccy D one) in Arndale. There is a Vietnamese that is great and a place called Rack that does great sandwiches. Try the Reuben.

Sometimes overlooked but there are some decent food stalls in Piccadilly Gardens, it's just not the nicest place in the world and seems to attract some radgees

Yard and Coop for chicken in NQ is an easy option.

Great boozer, Marble arch also does half decent bar food.

Some good brewery options, Track, cloudwater deffo worth a look.
 
Haven't been in for a couple of years, but Toms Chop House on Cross Street does really, really good more traditional food and used to have a decent range of beers/ales.

Piccadilly Gardens, stay clear unless you fancy scoring some spice or taking part in a bit of a ruck.......
 
Was there on Saturday to see Peter Kay. If you have your tickets on your phone make sure you can get a signal as we had a bit of trouble. Also the concourses get really full so an early arrival recommended.
Lots of nice bars but Mrs wanted to go to somewhere called Lucky Cat to eat. Was rather expensive and found out it was by Gordon Ramsey. Great food but pricey.
 
These are all solid suggestions, bundobust is brilliant, I prefer the original Piccadilly site as opposed to Oxford street but both are very good (it is vegetarian though) My favourite watering holes include the gas lamp on bridge street, a cellar bar with a good selection of beer. It was once a soup kitchen for Manchester and Salford children’s mission so has lots of history.
Technically in Salford but on the edge of the city centre are two wonderfully characterful backstreet pubs, the king’s arms and the eagle. Both worth the effort. There is another foodhall to try at new century hall.
Pubs in the NQ that are worth a look as well as the ones mentioned include the Smithfield, next door to the mackie mayor foodhall, run by Blackjack brewery, I also like the castle on Oldham street. Edinburgh castle on cutting room square is dark and atmospheric, like pubs should be. The crown and kettle is a good shout as it is worth going for the ceiling alone. Track and cloud water brewery taps are also good recommendations, they are on a small industrial estate but worth seeking out as the beer is fantastic.

Te problem with Manchester these days is there is too much choice!
 
Peaky Blinders (near the Albert Hall) was rammed with a cracking band on when we were there a few Saturdays ago. Worth a look in.

I work at the vegetarian Indian street food place in piccadilly mentioned above, so if anyone on here pops in say hello, I'm usually working behind the bar.
 
Shame about Friday cos Pete Wylie and The Mighty Wah! are playing Manchester deaf institute. Been to 2 gigs on this tour - Newcastle and Leeds - both great but Leeds was unreal.
