In Lincolnshire near where I used to live there was an old fella who always had a pigeon on his shoulder(no this isn't leading to a dad joke it is genuine), I got chatting to him once and asked him about it and he had rescued or saved it(not sure if it was from racing stock or a wild pigeon he rescued)as a chick and he had hand raised it and it got attached to him and would sit on his shoulder everywhere he went. Also a friend of a friend would re-home 'micro pigs' when people realised that the little piggylet they bough weighed half a ton when it was full grown and keep them on his land as pets.
And one of the dads from the kids school I used to talk to had rescued chickens which he saved from being destroyed once they stopped being quite as productive on eggs, him and 2 mates rented some land to keep rescued chickens and then sell the eggs to friends and family to help pay for the upkeep of the hens and land(rural Lincolnshire can be a strange place lol).
