What the actual heck - so many variants - but the main thing is the bloody peer pressure.
We got the wee fella ( 14) a coat weeks ago - we went over it time again - will this be OK. yea yea in reply.

He wore it once and and some jerk said his head looked small with this coat - he refused to wear it again ( actually that was quite funny).
So splurged more and got something more peer pressurey acceptable.
I hate this ****.

So he wants a bloody bike for Christmas- and I cannot decide what to get - his last was a Dawes - but having shot up,he wants a new one.

I would say a hybrd, with thick tyres - about 27.5 inches - medium build ( got long legs and very flexible body).

you lot were great with the coffee pot - am hoping you will turn up trumps again - was looking at a Voodoo Masala ( curry bike?) but in truth want to keep to under 400 - so in the poor people range.
am I being a grinch?

If he know you are getting him a bike then get him to look online and send you pictures/links to bikes he likes, then you pick the one for him from the list so it is a semi surprise present.
If he doesn't know he is getting a bike ask him for a list of things he wants. And then with a few random things on the list including the bike get him to give you links to some he likes.

Good bikes are in such short stock at the moment. Delivery issues. I’d manage his expectations otherwise you’ll rush the purchase and buy something which he will ride once.

Grinch? - Not in the slightest! £400 for a Xmas present is LOADS. If he wants a better bike than that budget, then he needs to save up and chip in - (all IMO since you asked).

If he's a super keen cyclist, and maybe needs the bike for competing on, then above opinion changes somewhat.

Edit: Quite a few kids seem to like the 29" wheel MTB variants.
