…. am I missing something with this lad?

I’m struggling to see how he has clocked up well over 50 premier league appearances.

Against one of the worst teams ive seen at the riverside for a while yesterday, he still looked rusty at best.

I’m not sure where his strengths lie still after half a dozen appearances. I’ve been really disappointed, assume now he was always just brought in for cover after the Bangura injury!

Shame, I was expecting so much more!

I was expecting a lot more from him too. Didn't think he was bad yesterday. He was generally a bit tidier on the ball than he has been although still had a couple of sloppy moments in the first half.
Defensively he looks so weak. He get's himself into good positions to challenge but then doesn't commit. He looks very low on confidence to me.

Maybe that’s it, confidence? - as I say you surely don’t get as many games in the prem as he has without something about you!

I struggle to understand how/why we are persisting with him. In my, albeit amateurish, opinion, Engel is better than him. That's not to say he is "Mad Dog" reincarnate but he is better going forward and as good defensively. But more significantly he is "our player". Perhaps Lukas is carrying a knock so they are managing his playing time? That is the only rationale I can come up with...

I'd like to see Bangura again this season. Anyone know how far off he is?

Did ok yesterday, but he really wasn't tested much.

I always saw him as cover due to injuries, with of course the potential of being more than that if he really shaped up. I can't say he's done that, and I don't think he'll be back.

Both Engel and Bangura are still in their adjusting-to-English football year. I don't think we were ever really looking at bringing in a new first choice LB, but if LT had made himself undroppable, we'd have had to consider it.

I think LB will be high on the shopping list again. As most know, I don't rate Engel at all but putting my opinion aside, it doesn't feel like Carrick is convinced by him either. Maybe giving Thomas a few more matches to get a look at him before the summer? He's only played 337 minutes of football for us.

He's out of contract in the summer.

He's back in full training now, so he should feature before the season ends.

I'd play Engel until he is available.

Thomas has offered nothing whenever he's played.
Engel has had some really bad games, but he's had plenty of good ones as well.

He hasn't pulled up any trees, but then again he's not had a consistent run of games. I also think he'd be more suited to playing as a traditional left back, rather than a wing back. I don't think we'll sign him permanently, but I also wouldn't be against it on a free if Carrick has seen enough in training to suggest he could become a first teamer. I certainly haven't written him off just yet.

Engel has grew on me but I would agree. Engel still has that guaranteed complacency almost every game… that inside pass to the invisible man is inevitable 😂

Haven’t seen enough of Bangura in all honesty.

I thought yesterday was just a way of getting some fresh legs into the team. With precious few senior players available who could be rotated, LB was one of the few opportunities to do this. Now RB, I'd agree he doesn't rate Dijksteel...

I think that is just it. He is 'rusty'.

He must have something about him to play that many times in the PL, and he is still relatively young.

Not sure it's one we will be pursuing in the summer though.

Engel is hit and miss, but when the opportunity arises he is not afraid of sticking a cross in. He is what he is - a fairly average left back for this level.

I assumed that Thomas would be a fairly significant upgrade, but that is clearly not the case. He's not had a run of games because his performances do not deserve a run of games.

I am looking forward to Bangura coming back. His pace can cause problems - especially if coming off the bench. We looked quite good in the one or two games when Engel played with Bangura in front of him.

Definitely a confidence thing with Thomas, looks like a lost kid at times.

I felt he grew into the game a bit more yesterday and put some decent crosses in 2nd half

I think his confidence is on the deck tbh.

He was being hammered from the south yesterday for no real reason.

There was a moment where the ball was floated over and he completely misjudged the flight of the ball and it went for a throw in, you can tell he’s seriously lacking any confidence.

There is a good player in there and I hope we get to see it, people are too fast to get their daggers out when it comes to some of our players and it serves nobody.

Barlaser is another he was given some praise for yesterday but with the constant caveat of “albeit against league one opposition”

He started the game off poorly and but thought he improved 2nd half. He made some good overlapping runs and played some good low crosses into the box.

Still wouldn't even consider signing him though, unless he plays out of his skin during the remaining games.

Aye. Think it was worth having a look, but from what some Leicester fans have said his confidence seems to have been shot for a while.

Plus unless we're planning on moving someone on, we don't need a third left back surely.
