Looking at the Cardiff side

I was surprised how how bad they’ve been this year then I looked at their squad and I hardly recognise any of them.

I knew 7 of them. Sawyers will put a shift in Callum Robinson is ok at this level and kipre was brilliant at Wigan the season they went down. My is a good honest pro too

What stands out for me is a lack of leaders, creativity and goal threat

I remember when loads were clamouring for us to get Sheyi Ojo every transfer window for a year or two. Another big club player that seemed to be all the rage with the sky sports generation but who hasn‘t done anything.

I’ve just guaranteed he’ll score a hat trick against us now, haven’t I?🤦‍♂️
Powerful runner but crap footballer

Any team is a threat when they get their fans behind them. And we hardly have many household names in the Boro team. Steffen, who made a rick in a cup final for City and never played again, and Howson, who got relegated with Norwich. And er...

They also comfortably beat us at the Riverside earlier in the season after going 3-0 up so...
Completely agree, many premier league fans wouldn’t recognise the majority of our players, the two you mentioned and
Maybe Jones if they watched the cup games last season and that’s about it.

The Cardiff match earlier in the season was the point I personally lost faith in Wilder. Appreciate others did earlier but up until then I'd seen enough in some of the performances to think things would turn around.
I was exactly the same as you.

You could have made an argument for quite a few of the games prior that we had been a bit unlucky. Had a few refs decisions against us, teams scoring from their only shot, high possession & xg stats (Not that it means much) etc but that game we were rank bad and got ruthlessly tactically exposed and exploited by a supposedly lesser team.

Cardiff at home this year remains one of the single worst halves of football I have seen us play. I was so up for it too, having beaten Sunderland the week before. I don't blame Cardiff for taking advantage, that's what they're supposed to do, so I don't see this as revenge. However, I do feel the need to show the real Boro tomorrow.

I'll always wonder what happened at half time vs Sunderland. We bossed the first half and rightly took the lead, playing some nice stuff along the way.

Second half, we sat deep and lumped it. I'd be amazed if that was CW's actual instruction, but he never seemed to get the players back onside after that. So I can't help wondering if some major bust up happened then.

I think that 45 minutes v Sunderland was an anomaly, given how we were performing generally, both before and after and even in the second half.

My take is that the players lifted their game on the night because of the opposition and the crowd.

I don't really think that's true of our home form.

Sunderland was our 4th match. We played some nice stuff vs WBA and Sheff Utd (still some of the best team goals we've scored all season), but got draws. We then beat Swansea, and deserved to, despite not playing quite so well.

I don't get to too many away games these days, but I found the home performances fairly good up to that half time vs Sunderland.
