Looking at buying a mobile air conditioning unit before the weekend

There's no easy way of cooling air. Swamp coolers from cool boxes etc end up creating humidity. Portable air cons are noisy and need a vent through a window - but better than nowt.
I have just had proper installed air con fitted to four rooms in our house and its a god send. They are also very efficient heaters in the winter - once the price of leccy has been separated from gas then they will be cheap to run too,
Isn't it about 50p an hour to run?

Another thing to remember is that fans get a lot less efficient when dust builds up on the blades. It stops the air from "sliding off".

We had a couple of tower fans where the airflow had become so weak they were almost useless. I opened them up and found a thick layer of dust on the inside of the revolving cylinder. I got it off with a paintbrush, though you can also spray them with a hosepipe. It made a massive difference. The airflow was much more powerful on the lowest setting than it had previously been on the highest.

Have a cold shower and stand in front of a fan.
I have a cold shower every morning. Even in winter. Started doing it during the last lockdown. Honestly it's incredible.

Scubs is it for the current summer weather we are experiencing? Don't worry, because as soon as the kids break up it'll **** it down solid for 6 weeks with flood warnings and not a hosepipe ban in sight.

I find the best way to stay cool in hot weather is to channel your inner Alan whicker. White or pastel Linen trousers, rolled up to just below the knee (no one wants to see your knees) , no socks, but also no open toed sandals (no one wants to see your toes) , appropriate short sleeved shirt, unbuttoned to the point of respectability, then one button more.

If that's not your thing try the sexy beast. Sandals are allowed this time, but no other clothes whatsoever other than a very very small pair of shorts, or better still budgie smugglers, a pair of sunglasses, a very thin layer of factor 0.5 suncream and a 6 pack of lager. Be prepared to have people mutter darkly about you probably being a Brexit voter as you walk past.

I bought one of these last year, and it was so good I bought another for downstairs. . Oscillation up and down, and left to right. Timers, very powerful at full speed, and really quiet on the lower settings, so good for sleep. Not cheap but nowhere near Dyson prices. I’ve used a Dyson fan before, but I found this much better
