Looking at buying a mobile air conditioning unit before the weekend

Don't make the mistake alot of people make during the day when its very hot by opening your curtains and windows. If the air temperature is hotter outside then if you open your windows, all that will do is blow in hot air and make your home even hotter. Save opening your windows until late evening when its cooler. Keep your curtains closed during the day to block the suns rays, ideally with blackout curtains.

I also freeze a 2 litre bottle filled with water then place it in a bowl in front of a fan to blow cold air round the house.

There's no easy way of cooling air. Swamp coolers from cool boxes etc end up creating humidity. Portable air cons are noisy and need a vent through a window - but better than nowt.
I have just had proper installed air con fitted to four rooms in our house and its a god send. They are also very efficient heaters in the winter - once the price of leccy has been separated from gas then they will be cheap to run too,

Who did you use moggasdog

I broke my boycott of Dyson to buy a Dyson fan for my baby daughters room last summer. Expensive, but definitely worth it and easy to move around from room to room.
