Hello to all London based boro fans or frequent traveller's. Going down south, east Hertfordshire in July. Wondering what is the best way to travel back and forth and around London why we are there. Looked at the tfl site bit confusing as to whether you get a travel card with train in from st Margarets Station ( nearest accommodation) or oyster card. 2 adults, 16yo, and 13yo travelling.
Thanks in advance

That's the Greater Anglia line which travels in via Tottenham Hale and goes onto Stratford. I'm not sure if that line allows you to use an oyster etc for tickets.

I think you'll need to buy a ticket from St Margaret into Tottenham hale and then transfer onto the tube. The Victoria line is excellent and you just use a debit card on the network rather than getting an oyster card and it'll always work out cheapest fare for you.

I would suggest buying a 1 day travel card from St Margaret’s which you can use for all the tubes and trains. Travel in after 9.30 and you can buy the off peak TC.

I'm pretty sure you can use your contactless card from there no problem

Remember to use it on busses as well, they are very cheap & more interesting (depending on the journey)

Pay as you go

You can use contactless (card or device) or an Oyster card to pay as you go for travel to and from:

  • Broxbourne, Rye House, St. Margarets, Ware and Hertford East

Yeah the easiest way is to just use contactless. They work out your journeys so you always get the cheapest rate

Thanks everyone, what about kid's who don't have bank account/contactless card. Just seems to be too many options without being too clear

As others have said, just get a days travelcard which includes both train and tube and therefore you don't need to mess about getting oyster cards for the kids.

As one of the boards resident Herts dwellers, let me know if you need any recommendations etc for Hertfordshire.
