Live Footage of Court Sentencing

Watching the first live British Court Sentencing on Sky News now.. 25 year old lad who killed his grandfather.

Judge is currently summing up before delivering her sentence and is giving a brutal explanation of the lads past and how he murdered his Grandfather. Fairly explicit and horrific stuff.

To allow people to get really cross at the lack of ‘justice’ which in turn allows the Tories to create more division?

On the plus side I will be able to see my mate when he is televised (he’s a judge btw not a criminal)

Politics seems to have turned into a game show, might as well do the same with the courts.

It is a useful exercise, it should be helpful in increasing levels of knowledge and understanding as to why sentences are passed in the way they are.

This was clearly an horrific case and gives an insight into the criminal justice system which hopefully will be useful to society in general but particularly victims and witnesses.

If you want to know how sentencing works just turn up at a sentencing hearing.

I do wonder if defence will tone down some of their "he's such a lovely lad wouldn't hurt a fly" mitigations with a camera on them?

Whilst I understand everyone has the right to legal representation. I don't think I'd want to hear or see some of these 'scrotes' being defended.

I guess some people will watch. I very much doubt I'll ever tune in. Simply no interest. Well unless it's a mate😂

I think it's a great idea. For a multitude of reasons. Education, curiosity and more.

The whole point of a justice system is that the "scrote" gets a fair hearing. So he must be defended and his actions explained that is the job of his defence. If you don't want to hear it then you really shouldn't pass judgement on sentences if you are not prepared to give full and equal hearing to the "scrote's" explanation and to testimonies as to his character. Very few people are entirely evil so it is only right that we hear of the good side of someone who has fallen into crime. You never know when you might want someone to listen to your explanation of an incident that has landed you in court.

Oh you don't get to hear mitigation. It's just the judges sentencing remarks where he basically sums up what he's just heard addresses the defendant and explains the reasoning for his sentence.
