LinkedIn

LinkedIn is OK but I guess it depends on you're line of work and how you use it. I've been on there since before it turned into Facebook for professionals and still use it like that. All my "friends" on there are directly work related, it's useful for keeping in touch. Also as an independent consultant it has got me work as a lot of recruiters/agencies in my line of work use it as a serious tool to find people. I never look at all the social media style posts or congratulate people on work anniversaries/new jobs etc.

I have it, don't really use it much though, found my current job through it.

Biggest issue I have with it is both my previous employers thought my LinkedIn account was somehow their property, demanding I share the link to my profile on the met the team page, telling me to remove people from rival companies from my connections etc.

I do agree there is a lot of circle jerking going on there nowadays and a lot more spamming

its social media - there is good and bad.
live worked for 14 different businesses so enjoy seeing how some of my ex colleagues are doing - especially the twerts who have clearly firked up.

My young in has got his last two jobs off there too.

And yes - loads of nonsense.

I can't stand it, all of the most annoying people I've worked with are always on it which says a lot.

I work in digital marketing so it's almost expected that we use it but I just can't bare it, it's also a mess of a website, almost makes Teesside Live look usable.

Anyone on twitter really must consider following "the state of LinkedIn" - some of the stuff that they dig up is hilarious, and you can never take LinkedIn seriously after seeing that.

In my industry I work both in health and in education.

Linked in has been excellent in resource gathering from others in my field both theoretical stuff and physical demonstrators. So much more efficient than calling central depts of various companiess etc.

However you get a lot of pyramid schemes

CEOs or business owners who love a bit of self fellatio

And seemingly recruiters (insufferable bottom feeders whose careers yesteryear would have peaked on the front counter at McDonald's) who have evolved to linked in meme pages.

Apologies to any of you that fall into the categories above, unless you're a recruiter.

A useful social media platform for business types, or a platform for "LOOK AT ME ! LOOK AT ME!!!!" work (loose term) achievements?

Hibernated my account for a few months as was getting daily approaches from recruiters. Really, really couldn't be ars*d. Logged back in and wish I hadn't 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Wish my arms were a couple of feet longer so I could give myself a great big pat on the back for doing my job.....FFS.
Me too mate, when it first came out it was useful for a bit of networking. It’s a right pain in the posterior now, as bad as FB, so I have binned it.

I guess it depends who you follow. I tend to follow more companies than individuals more out of general interest. I'm not looking for a job so I've avoided the recruiters, but it does seem like a lazy way of trying to sell things, especially people offering to manage your social media profiles.

It’s nauseating at times, everything and everybody is fantastic and unbelievable.

Yesterday I was walking to an interview. There was a starving dog on the road. I stopped to feed him and missed the interview. The next day I got a call asking me to come in and do the interview. I was surprised. The next day I went to the interview. The interviewer came in. He was the dog.
