Let's be honest here

2nd place was always going to be tough, even more so when you look at Sheff Utd's run-in.

Very disappointing today make no bones about it and it hurts it really does, but this is a boro team that were sat 21st in the division, so to be even in with a sniff of 2nd is fantastic!!!

This is the championship and anyone can beat anyone, so bring on Burnley and if I was Carrick my team talk would be to get them all to watch this today and put it right!!!

Plus anyone remember the promotion year 1997-98

A - forest 0-4
A - QPR 0-5

Those were shock results to the system but Im still more than confident we have more than enough to go up via the plays offs, so UTFB

Was just thinking about the games mentioned. Sh*t happens.

The Championship - bottom can beat top on a regular basis, it's a mad league.

Concern is if we have to really scrap and dig in for a win in the playoffs. Playing nice football, fine. Having to get stuck in for 90 mins.....hmmm.

But reality check - we've come a long way in a very short period 👍

Seem to recall getting gubbed at Luton too in 94/95

To be honest, if we had won today it would not have made any difference as Sheffield won their 8th 1.0 of the season. They would still been 3 points in front with a game in hand. We needed Norwich to win. The worrying thing for us is that other playoff teams will look at us today and realise we are defensively poor if they can keep it tight. Even fourth bottom Cardiff have conceded less goals than us. Fry must be first choice when fit as he and Smith are our only proper defenders.

Exactly

Conceding 4 goals to a team in the bottom 3 who were set up to not concede rather than attack is surely the issue here rather than just a defeat.

Surely you can see that and what it tells our opponents about how to play against us in the play offs, we don’t seem to have an answer against an organised, strong side if we start with what turns out to be the wrong XI, we didn’t even have time to make a substitution today to try and turn it round given how completely the defence capitulated, it was really that bad a 15 minute spell and can’t be glossed over as much as you might want to try to do so!

We've won loads of games with lots of goals, and haven't shot ourselves in the foot like this since Wilder was shown the door.

I still fancy us by that law of averages. Bring on Burnley!

......Lenihan? 😳
Lenihan played well today… in their half. Didn’t see much of him in our half while they were scoring 4 goals (to add to their other 32 goals they have scored all season). You can’t leave McNair as the deepest defender.

My point is he's still a proper defender. Bad day today, but he's been excellent since Carrick came in👍
