Lens in for Chuba?

"McGree, Barlaser, Clarke, Hoppe, Forss have not grown in value I don't think."

Sorry I disgree on McGree and Forss - McGree now appears a Oz National team regular, a side that reached the last 16 of the WC. He also played 42 times in a Boro side that finished 4th, hes scored 9 times since signing. Maybe not as good as Tav, but possibly worth half of his value when transferred to Bournemouth.

Last season Forss scored 10 times in 39 games, nearly all from playing on the wing, most would judge that a success and improvement compared with the rest of his career.

Clarke has been injured for 9.5 months.

Barlaser its too early to judge.

Barlaser value is listed as 2m we got him for less than that because he only had 6 months left on contract, so he will be worth more than we paid….and I say that as someone who doesn’t really rate him. I reckon we could sell for 2m tomorrow if we wanted to.
Clarke, injuries are what have devalued him

The model is supposedly buy potential, cheap, develop it and sell for high premium.
I’m sorry but I don’t see McGree being in demand or commanding a fee much above what we paid.
Forss is the only one that may be worth a mill more than what we paid.
Hoppe and Clarke are big write downs. Payero likely would be too.
Barlaser might scrape a small profit at present, because of the contract situation when we bought him.
I don’t see much market value above book value across those 6.

See Carrick has now confirmed (as some of us have been saying) that we don't need to sell Chuba in order to strengthen.

So that's blown that theory out of the water.

Djed Spence - bought @19 for nothing, sold for between £12.5m and £20m in August 2022 - is that high enough?

Isiah Jones - bought young for a few quid must be worth at least £2m to £3m.

McGree was undisclosed so we don't know what was paid for him, but he has clearly progressed in the last 18 months

Brentford buy lots of players in, most fail, it just takes the odd big winner to justify it. They are probably struggling now to give younger and unknown players a chance - hence Gilbert was keen to leave them and drop down a league.

An advantage wil have over Premier league clubs is we can blood younger players more easily - in my opinion we need to use that advantage.

Sorry Red, but I did explicitly talk about signings and said our successes had been Academy. Read back what I posted in post 89.

Fair point. Although the fact were clearly close to signing Engel and are in for the coffee bloke backs it up.
It does.

I think we'll may be waiting for the Akpom move to be finalised before we push through the striker were after and the type of player we bring in is reliant upon money coming in first.

can we?

arguably easier to blood younger players in the mid-lower end of the PL than in a team that is going for promotion

Akpom future to be decided in 48 hours

The future of Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom is expected to be sorted in the next 48 hours.
Lens have made an £8m bid and there is strong interest from Sheffield United and Ajax.
It’s understood Boro’s valuation is more than £10m.
Akpom is into the final year of his contract and won’t be renewing.

**** me. 8 to 10 million pounds for a bloke who scored more goals than anyone since the 50s. Christ. That's barely more than we ***ed away on saville and fletcher. Recruitment team needs to be pulling rabbits out of hats.

I agree. I'm hoping for at least £15 million.
