Nottingham Forest’s Premier League rivals Leicester City and Brentford are reportedly interested in a loan move for former wing-back Djed Spence before the end of the window.

The 22-year-old was a standout player for Forest as they earned promotion back to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years last season. Spence was on a season-long loan from Middlesbrough.

His performances at the City Ground caught the eye, leading to a lot of interest in the summer transfer window. While the Reds may have been keen on extending his stay at the club, Tottenham were also showing an interest.

After a long protracted transfer saga, Spence joined the North London club towards the end of the summer transfer window. But things haven’t gone as he would have hoped.

The full-back has played a total of five minutes in the Premier League so far this season, with those minutes coming in four separate appearances. It has led to talk that he could be allowed to leave the club in the January transfer window.

As reported by football.london , Spurs have now given the ‘green light’ for Spence to go on loan in the final days of the window. The report names Leicester and Brentford as two of the clubs to show an interest in a possible move.

Southampton, Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen are also named as possible destinations for the player. Despite his lack of game time Tottenham are said to only be interested in a loan deal in January and are ‘rejecting’ any permanent offers or options to buy the player at the end of a loan.

Tottenham are closing in on a possible deal for Sporting CP’s Pedro Porro, which will push Spence further down the pecking order at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season. The full-back played a total of 46 times for Forest last season, scoring three goals and providing a further five assists.

Who is Djed Spence?

Spence is a 22-year-old right full-back who currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur. He joined Spurs in the summer in a deal worth around £20 million from Middlesbrough.
He made a move following an impressive loan spell with Nottingham Forest last season, where he helped City’s East Midlands rivals return to the Premier League. He played a total of 46 games for the club on loan from Middlesbrough, including the FA Cup fourth round clash vs City.

How has he done this season?

Since moving to Tottenham in the summer, Spence has struggled for game time. He has played a total of five minutes over four appearances in the Premier League so far this term. His other two appearances for the club have come off the bench in the EFL Cup third round defeat against former club Forest and the FA Cup third round win over Portsmouth. Spence has been left out of the matchday squad for the last three Premier League matches. The lack of game time has led to Antonio Conte making the decision to allow him to go on loan in the January window.
