How do you feel about the newly announced plans for the first real game at Wembley.

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City will both have 2,000 fans at Wembley for the Carabao Cup final on 25 April.

But fans under 18 cannot attend, and people who are clinically extremely vulnerable or pregnant have also been told not to apply for tickets.

To get into Wembley, fans must take a lateral flow coronavirus test at a designated site - not at home - in the 24 hours before the game.

And they must bring proof of a negative result, either a text or an email.

Fans who get a ticket must sign a consent form, as the match is part of the government's events research programme, which is assessing how major events can reopen safely to the public as coronavirus restrictions ease.

In addition, fans are being asked if they will take two PCR tests, which are designed to show if someone showing coronavirus symptoms currently has the virus. Both tests should be taken at home, the first before the match, and the second five days afterwards. Fans who get tickets for the final will be told how to apply for the PCR tests, which will be free.

seems a bit pointless and over the top to only be able to get 2k fans in.
I guess it's also a pilot event, so they'll be testing things that might be rolled out on a larger scale a bit further down the line. Working out how long things take, and so on too. (I did initially think the same thing about only 2k each)!

Think its a good idea and is probably the only safe way to allow fans back in without going down the vaccine passport route. With how easy testing currently is, everyone should be tested before attending any sort of event. Hopefully will allow big crowds in time for next season.

I guess they're trying to figure out the logistics of this kind of thing - getting people tested, checking their tests on entry, etc... with a smaller number before trying to scale it up. Makes sense - going to be a weird atmosphere inside Wembley though!

Very similar to the Snooker in Sheffield, which I'm off to on Sunday.

Pretty sure when this was initially mooted a few months it was stated it would be close to capacity?

There does seem to be a worrying trend with the Gvt of "promising" things (when they're not really in a situation to do so) to then only roll back on the promise later and sell it as a win. Counting on some very short memories in the electorate!

It's close to capacity for the final isn't it, depending on how the earlier rounds go.

Only 4000 in a 90k stadium, in a country with the lowest rates in Europe seems a bit overly cautious.
It’s 8000 fans in total,( 2000 each for Man City and spurs and 4000 to local residents and NHS).

they are then going to Allow 21,000 for FA Cup finals

I didn't get to the Riverside for the Bournemouth match, but even with just 1k in the ground, the improvement in atmosphere on TV was noticeable.

I guess for the players it will be less weird than what they've dealt with for the last year and, for the fans there, they'll be so wired to be back, it'll feel great.

I think many fans are really annoyed that a cup final should be used as a pilot in this way. Football grounds are incredibly regulated spaces with trained stewards and medics etc. Unlike a supermarket or indeed a beach.
Will there be similar tests at any music festivals do we think?
