Leaders in the dressing room

Bamba and Pleltier may well be leaders, but unfortunately they are nowhere near the standard required of footballer for this club

We need leaders who can actually make our team better, not a liability in defence

Haven't had one as a skipper since Leadbitter but we had leaders across the pitch then.

I'm not sure what Grant would have made of recent performances. You could see him give people that stare or have a go at them for just a misplaced pass.

I don't see anyone doing that at the moment. I think players like that are a dying breed.

Payero looks like he’s got it in him tbh

I came on here to put the exact same thing. Leadbitter dragged the team through games and was always there to rally the troops when things starting to go wrong.

I would have him part of our coaching squad before Sunderland do.

He did, but he also had other leaders alongside home, Ayala Friend and Gibson at th back for instance, all organising and supporting.

He would maybe have looked back at his days under Mogga and remembered what it was like.

I think you could add Dimi to that list. He slowed things down by falling on a ball to waste time and let the team regroup. The whole squad looked like a good group on and off the field.

Need a Andy Townsend; maybe even a Neil Maddison. Old hands but not finished, and not costing a fortune.

Or a tactical approach to game management was part of our plan then and it isn't now? I always feel when Mourinho-ball is being implemented correctly his teams always manage the game and time waste etc. as well as maintaining a stranglehold on the midfield. We were like that under Karanka too. Now we seem to just waft about and let teams run through us.

Our masterclass in game management was Norwich away on a Friday evening after Albert created the own goal.....shame that wasn't the Wembley game.

Shame we buggered it up bringing in the Spanish contingent for the Premier League!
The promoted team quite obviously needed heavyweight recruitment for the Premier.
The problem is that Gibson provided the funds for featherweights, flyweights and retired fighters.
He will have regretted that every day since, as it has added tens of millions of additional debt that he is liable for since relegation.

Dimi, Nsue, Friend, Leadbitter, Ayala, Nugent, Rhodes were not premier league standard players; never had been and never went on to be.
Unfortunately neither were Guzan, Valdes, Barragan, Fabio, Espinosa, De Sart, Fischer, De Pena, nor Guedioura and Gestede in January.

We had Gibson, Downing, Ramirez at promotion, with Clayton and Stuani at a push.
We signed Traore, De Roon, Chambers and (eventually) Bamford who had some quality and Negredo who had experience and lingering class.
We were miles short of what was required.

Yes I remember Dimi falling over about six times feigning injury 🤣

You would think Fry would be one to make a name for himself as a potential leader. Local lad, loves the club, a giant, plays every game, but I've seen nothing from him that looks like he has it in him.
