Last years front three

The Chuba-Archer-Ramsey attack was the best strike force we've had since Hasselbaink-Viduka-Yakubu. The pace, strength and finishing was a once in a generation combination and sadly we're now seeing how hard it is to replicate. I don't blame the management, how, as a champship team, do you replace £ 50 million's worth of talent overnight? In many many it was a bit of a fluke that we had that quality of forwards in the first place. The real sadness is that I'm sure we would have signed them all if we'd have been promoted. With the best will in the world, Burnley and Sheff United are not bigger or better teams than Boro, and the Dutch league is a poor second tier in European terms

I reckon those three would have thrived in the Prem and we'd be looking at a mid-table finish. But , it was not meant to be , and I fear the Champo is much stronger this year and it will take a near miracle to make the playoffs this time, but I still keep the faith, in Carrick we trust.

They were fab but only started about 7 games together didn’t they?

Once in a generation? Nah they were talented individuals but we can repeat that, it was the mindset change that helped, be more risk and reward as a team after a decade or more of defence first and % balls.

Mogga is really the only manager we’ve had since Steve Mac who thought about giving our forwards freedom to express themselves and played the ball on the floor to create the best opportunities. Warnock, and pulis were defence first and then launch it when you win it. Wilder was fairly direct at times but was all about the system and obsession with getting CBs up field rather than letting talented forwards do their job.

Karanka was all about the defence and then super slow build up play.

Carricks philosophy will help any forward look better and last year can be replicated again

From the off - you`re right.
It was a major coup by Carrick and the staff to bring in Ramsey and Archer. It was testament to his nouse and experience at the highest levels - to turn Chuba into an absolute revelation. It was also Leo`s sup[port for Hackney which gave his senior career lift-off. Some of our youngsters continue to progress from last season - encouraged by Carrick`s policy of giving some of them the opportunity to train with the first team.

It may have been that we could have signed Archer and Giles on the basis we would have had Prem money coming in - had we got promoted. But, we couldnt afford them in the Championship. Regards Chuba: Carrick said "I would like to have kept him". But it wasnt to be and we cashed in rather than risk another season. It was a wise decision - although for us fans it would have been great to watch [maybe] another season of superb goals. It appears that Chuba had an offer from the club - but clearly our financial reallity couldnt meet that.

I`de like to think we will clear out the exhaust and restart the Carrick "Napier Deltic" football squad: we have the right components [and maybe more to come], we just need a recheck and then move into gear. We wouldnt have thought this time last year, we would have three different people in charge in a season, have the highest goal-scorer in the Championship - who broke many Boro records and achieved fourth place. It was disappointing at the end, but this season has the potential to turn around [Im sure it will] and see us end up in the top two. Lets see

Encouraging we've created a decent number of chances, just (currently) have a step down in quality putting them away.

Hoping the players brought in settle, get used to the new environment/ system etc and start to convert.

Be much more worried if we weren't creating anything.

Can't see us being top scorers this season, but if we can tighten up at the back (stopping the abysmal goals) and start to win games 1-0, 2-0 instead of 4-1 / 5-1 like we were last season...... we'll be okay.
