Laptop/Headphones help please

Any help would be appreciated


I use headphones on a laptop, and suddenly today all the sound has stopped coming through the headphones - despite being fine last time

I am not that computer literate. Would anyone have any very easy to follow instructions on how to get the sound coming through headphones again please?

Have unplugged and plugged headphones in again and checked connections etc

Have clicked on sound settings but don't really know what I'm doing

Has the audio output setting of your music player changed ?

Have you tried plugging headphones into something else to make sure they're working?

Swallow the headphones, poo them out and then plug them back into the laptop. Always works for me.

Go to sound settings in windows and check what the playback device is. Sometimes windows is a d*ck and sets this to all sorts. I use an app called ear trumpet which keeps all the defaults locked as otherwise I've got to redo it regularly as have several Audio devices

Don't think so. I haven't done anything. Only thing is windows put me onto Face ID after the last time I'd used headphones - but can't see that making a difference

Is is a Dell? Same happened to mine. I downloaded an updated driver and that fixed it. For a while. Currently not working again

device manager, uninstall audio device (incl driver), restart laptop

Could be several things - almost impossible to say from your post.

Obvious first thing to check is that you haven't accidently knocked your speaker or audio onto mute

Well I came back from my break and it's back in the speaker's!!!!

I'd say try them with something else. That at least proves they either work or are faulty.

If they work with an other device then it's the laptop (more of an issue). I guess it's more fault finding.
