Lack of panic this january.

This is the best thing about this January window.
Usually fans are panicking, calling out the club, demanding new players.
This year all is calm, people looking at as if we weren't to get anyone it isn't the end of the world.

I think its down to 2 things. Carrick and his calming presence rubbing off on everybody.
Our Summer recruitment (much lamented) was actually excellent.

Steffen, Smith, Leinhan, Giles and Forss all make up key elements of our 11.
I'm certain when Clarke is back he'll have a big role to play to.
Hoppe I imagine will in the future to.

Our first team have done brilliantly and our subs have been effective when coming on - so the need to make quick signings has abated
Massive credit to Michael Carrick

If everyone was fit, I'd only think we were short in midfield and it's not desperately short.

Genuinely wouldn't be too fussed if Archer is all we sign, assuming Lenihan and/or Clarke are close to a return.

I think it’s down to the fact that we don’t want too much disruption to the team half way through a campaign. Just look at what happened lst season. Hence no intense demand for new faces

The last couple of January windows have seen us get worse despite doing quite a bit of business, so before the window I said I was happy to do no business.

Plus usually we've been struggling for goals, but we've been free scoring under Carrick. Defense does need to improve, but maybe we have more confidence that that can be done through coaching rather than new players

We are very short in midfield still, one injury and we could be in trouble. Really hope we can get Barlaser as a priority.
I would love to see us take a risk on Baccus too

It’s all in the content of his character as someone said not so long ago. I think there’s a lot to be said by just being able to calm the nerves of those who have a tendency to throw away their qualities when they’re under pressure. I think you just have to see that Citeh game today.

Pep could have panicked and made house hold changes at the break but instead he kept calm and got the team to play smarter.

Panic only instills more panic and perhaps less assurance in your leadership abilities.

7, 11. 12, 22 & 24 still not registered to players!!!!!

I'd be far happier with players signed permanently than more loans. If the right players are available that will develop and/or improve us immediately then it doesn't matter if we sign them in January or summer.

Honestly if the club have Barlaser as number one priority, I wanna see us hold our nerve.
I don't want a sudden panic, we know he wants to come here, but it speaks volumes to his character that he won't force it. The closer we get to end the window, maybe Rotherham panic and realise he's ending up here in the summer regardless and take the money.
If we can't tempt Rotherham I'd love us to go get Keanu Baccus, it's a cheap deal, plater that can grow with the squad to, so that'd be nice.
If not maybe a 6 month loan of Zidan Iqbal?

I'd love nothing more than a quiet deadline day, few lads out on loan and shut up shop for about 5/6 o'clock with Barlaser through the door.

I'm pretty certain the summer window will be much more lively. Although Scott's probably gotta have 2 lists now! One for the championship and one for the PL

It's results based for me, if we had been drubbed by Brighton, then lost to Milwall and then against the inbreeds up the road, this place would be in meltdown calling for a rebuild to give Carrick the tools he needs.

While the results are good, we're winning and staying in the play-off spots there's no need to scream for reinforcements really.

LESS THAN TWO WEEKS TO GO!!

Dan Barlaser is defo moving from Rotherham this window, boro is his preferred move.. just waiting for that replacement to be confirmed. The Geordie Pirlo.. just the latest in a long line of northern English Pirlo’s to don the Middlesbrough shirt.

Ardon Jashari ‘The New Granit Xhaka’ as described by.. we’ll only me to be honest. My trusted source whose pieces of inside info always come true.. even when I don’t believe them (not so sure with this one tbh) says a deal has been put forward and accepted (by who I do not know) meanwhile the rumours twitches seem to have died down leaving this one go a little flaccid. Worth while giving Derby County a tug on the availability of Max Bird another left sided defensive midfielder who reminds me of a young Michael Carrick in appearance if nothing else. Why would he not want to sign for his childhood hero and partway doppelgänger?

THE LEFT SIDED ATTACKER
Siriki Dembele a great shout from Simply Red leaves you wondering who else could we possibly go for? Makes sense in terms of championship performance, lack of premiership game time and the financial benefit of being able to take him up on loan for the short term.
Bournemouth bringing in Dango Ouattara from Lorient on a five-and-a-half-year contract and agreeing terms with Antoine Semenyo adds weight to a possible championship move for Siriki.. Jonathan Woodgate will have the inside knowledge for the recruitment team.

AND ONE MORE
Bigrig mentioned Charlie Cresswell in on a permanent move from Leeds.. looks like he’s being recalled from Millwall amid interest from Championship clubs.

are Derby County looking to cash in on Eiran Cashin.. rumours that Norwich are sniffing around, Jan Paul Van Hecke is out of contract at Brighton in the summer, looked bright for Blackburn last season and even more so at the Riverside when the turned us over.
Noise of Kai Wagner(Philadelphia Union) and Cody Drameh (Leeds) has died down coinciding with the inclusion of George Gitau and Bryant Bilongo in the match day squad. Matty Clarks’s injury, Darragh Lenihan’s ‘injury’ and the sparse selection of Paddy McNair leads me to believe a central defender is being considered.. seems my scouting of Louis Patris from OH Leuven was a waste of time. Nat Philips has been mentioned a few times, clearly on our radar, on loan at Bournemouth last season and Keiron Scott saying both Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Carrick an asset in attracting young defenders and midfielders..

7 Dan Barlaser - Rotherham
11 Siriki Dembele - Bournemouth
12 Nat Philips - Liverpool
22 Max Bird - Derby

I’ve convinced myself we have another four coming in, two midfielders, a defender and the mysterious ‘left sided attacker’ - out of all the interviews and reading between the lines that is the best I can come up with.

We'll get Barlaser, despite what Rotherham are saying, and if we don't in January he'll be here in the summer assuming we don't go up. Anymore signings we are just padding out the squad, if we get injuries give an Academy graduate a run. We've seen a couple on the bench of late, so they must be seen as capable of stepping up and we have plenty out on loan too.

Could that be Archer?

Meaning we're after a mysterious central striker as an upgrade on Crooks?
Some player to be an upgrade on Crooks. He seems very much taken for granted by a lot of fans. Compare him with a very much in demand £6m Rudy Gestede!

Daniel Nkrumah from Luton Orient might be the one. We had a bid returned down and he’s out of contact in the summer. Left footed..

Investing in a 2023 version of George Boateng to replace Jonny howson should be where we are putting our money either now or in the summer. He may cost a lot but this type of player will make the most difference to our first XI

Tarique Fosu has been recalled to Brentford from Stoke.. on his way to Rotherham. I expect Dan Barlaser to be on the bench against Sunderland..
