Labour conference votes for PR manifesto commitment at next GE

Starmer can just ignore it though can't he?

Unfortunately yes. And knowing Starmer's MO he'll probably make a big song and dance about going up against the party's members. Not now while he's at party conference of course. But in a few weeks when he's on Peston or something and it's time to do his Labour members are the enemy bit again.

It's a vote loser for 2 reasons only 46%of the population wan't it and the rest will be stoked up by the daily mail to believe nothing gets done under coalitions.

As with BrEXit I'll wager the majority of the population haven't a clue what PR really is.....but agree a RWM campaign of lies and disinformation will soon "sort that out".

I'm not holding my breath tbh, Starmer has reneged on far bigger things - like every one of his "vote for me" pledges.

The biggest enemy of the labour party seems to be the labour party from posts on here.
If Kier Starmer told me the grass was green and sky was blue I'd have to look out of the window. Their recent track record against anyone within the party who dares to question them is a disgrace, and Starmers magic trick for making members disappear in their hundreds of thousands .....Dynamo would be proud.

When are you going to realise that only a 100% firm centre ground Labour Party is going to be successful against the Tories AND THE MEDIA AND THE FAR RIGHT WING PRESS ?
You have to gradually start with the centre ground then introduce the other social justice policies BUT gradually.
Trust starmer to do this….FFS….otherwise these Tories will destroy this country and they’re almost there in destruction of the country to be fair with brexit and 10 years of austerity and now this tax breaks for the rich budget….pound getting ‘tanked’
Just let starmer try and steer us out of it….slowly but surely…

I don't get the hatred of starmer. I haven't particularly taken to him but the labour party look like grown ups waiting to take over. I don't really care who he kicked out of the party, it's worked.

Aka be Tories to win Tory votes so no change. By the time you are in a position to introduce left wing policies it'll be the Tories turn again.

Anyone who suggests that a centrist Labour govenment is the same as a Tory government needs to leave the debate to the grown ups. The Tories are a right wing BNP / UKIP hybrid under a different banner.

Would I love a left Labour government? Absolutely. Would I prefer a centrist Labour government to this corrupt, self serving shower of sh1t? Absolutely.

You need to realise that there is a difference between the current Tory government and a Tory government like Cameron's. Cameron could be the Labour leader and policies would be no different to Starmer's. So yes, any Labour is better than current Tory but don't pretend centrist Labour is something that anyone that actually wants genuine change to be excited about.

You used "trust" and "Starmer" in the same sentence 😳.

I want Labour to win the election '24, I'll vote for my local Labour MP as he's doing a good job ......but Starmer and his cabal -. No. No thank you.

The problem is that not enough people want change and it really pains me. We got so close under Corbyn to change, but it wasn't enough.

I hate it, but there's enough support for a left wing government in the UK and hasn't been for over 40 years.

A centrist Labour government is still a step forward from the shift to the hard right the majority of us are suffering with.

Hard disagree. There is plenty of support for a left wing government. Corbyn's policies were very popular. His personality wasn't. He was also leader at an impossible time due to Brexit. If you took Brexit out of the equation then I think he would've won when it was May v Corbyn.

A left wing leader with a cleaner history would have a great chance of making a difference to the country.

Starmer will be nothing but a short reprieve before the Tories return.

Starmer's said he won't reverse brexit. And he's refused to say whether he'd reverse the tax breaks for the rich in last weeks budget.

So if you mean trust Starmer on his words, you're trusting him that he won't change these things.

If you're saying trust that Starmer will change these things regardless of what he says, then you're basically taking his untrustworthyness as a selling point.

How about a right wing Labour government? Since that's what is actually being offered.
Is it? Care to tell me the policies that have been pledged that are right wing?

I hate disagreeing with you @SuperStu because we ar from the same part of the Labour Party and have similar views. It's not a right or wrong thing, you're very principled and want a left wing Labour govt as I do and won't have anything less. I admire that. However, I feel that i have to be pragmatic and that I'd rather compromise my own personal position and have a Labour government than a Tory one, even though it won't be to the left as I'd dearly love them to be.
