Following on from Erimus74's post about Pete Brine's goal after 20 seconds against Arsenal, for some reason it brought to mind a question I put in a Boro quiz once that foxed a few people who know their stuff.

I was there that day, not a game I will forget! We barely had a shot and somehow won 3-0.

I was there too. We had 1 shot on goal and 3 goals. Remarkable. I think that is beaten by our away game at the Etihad in November 2003. We won 1-0 but had no shots on target!!

I think we took a corner & it hit a defender & went in,

It was indeed a Sun Jihai own goal but it was not from a corner Erimus. Juninho broke forward who shifted the ball to the right for Mendy to slot a cross to the near post. Their CH missed it and Jiihai was unsighted and poked it home. Our first ever appearance at the Etihad.
