Krakow, Vienna or Girona?

It was the only thing that I could think of that you had missed. :D (y)

My wife just asked me " did I mention the shoes?"

OMG how could I have forgotten that ?
She bought three pairs and she is now telling me how she regrets not buying more.
( this is more than twenty five years later :D )

I didn't know when I proposed to her nearly fifty years ago that I was marrying Imelda Marcos mk 2. :ROFLMAO:
It's the main reason that I'm in no hurry to take her back to Italy or Spain
( or anywhere else for that matter 🤣 )

If you've never been to any I suppose Krakow but it's has gone right down imho based on my 2nd visit 15 yrs after my 1st, the centre seems all drunken brits on stag/hen parties now but there's a good modern art gallery and schindler's factory and the salt mine/Auschwitz double header trip though I found those last 2 a bit tacky but most ppl seem to be eimpressed
Loved the Spanish/Catalan war history around Girona and it's a shortish trip by high speed train to Barcelona and/or Figueres and it's Dali museum
Vienna has interesting history and it's a short trip by bus or Danube riverboat to Bratislava to tick another capital off

I'd go to Krakow as well and include a trip to Aushwitz. It's a beautiful city great for eating and drinking. Schindlerrs factory is there too if you want a bit more history. Finally if you like weird stuff try the museum of illusion, a cheap and weird couple of hours.
Auschwitz is very moving but I wouldn’t go there on a holiday trip. If you have a serious bone in your body it will sadden you for at least a few days. I think everybody should go, but it’s not a holiday.

Disagree with that tbh, it's a long day for the trip but I doubt many people are going to krakow for a week or two to allow time to adjust etc. We were very moved by it, likewise Schindler's factory etc but we managed to do all that stuff, salt mines and more inside of a 3 night trip and still have a great time. Likewise a lot of the things in Germany along the same topic. It's a major part of the visits to Poland and many many people do it on short trips

Me personally I would pick Krakow, I have never been, but I like Polish people. When I moved to Lincolnshire in the mid 2000s I lived in a shared house and it was mainly Polish who lived there and found them really good people, also worked with a lot of them in factories and found them very easy to get along with. Also I can say yes,no, hello In Polish and say "I don't speak Polish" in Polish which is usually helpful, but I also learned a few swear words in Polish which I found was quite a common trait in the Polish language in factories or drink sessions with them(a bit like the English language using explicit language when bantering with mates).

I was working there when I went, and I went on my own. It is very moving.

Someone mentioned drunken hen and stag does, and that does happen a lot, but stay away from the brit bars, bulldog (good breakfast though), 442, pemier league bar and the irish bar that has a name like pogd-something or other. Find some of the great polish cellar bars where the beer is cheaper and you can mix with the locals..

If you like karaoke try cougars, it's a dive, but the locals can belt out a tune and its a real laugh. The barman will show you some magic tricks if you ask nicely. If you want to get tanked on vodka try the Wodka cafe, it has hundreds of types of vodka, get there early, it's always packed.

If you want a nice walk, go down by the Vistula. Nice walk and some nice out of the way bars. Neopolomice forest is a bit of a treck, 30 minutes by cab but if you like walking its beautiful.

One final thing, check the expected weather in November. I was there Jan-feb for 2 months just before covid and it was cold, -5 to -10 everry day and poluted, enough to give me a bad chest.

If you're only going for two nights, and at that time of the year, I'd go with Girona.

Krakow and Vienna need more than a couple of days, lots to see. Girona is a charming little spot but a weekend is about right. It will still be warm too.

Not been to Girona but out of the other two Vienna is magnificent. Krakow is lovely too

Vienna because of the cakes, coffee, river, Palaces, Prater Park, Cathedrals.

Not as good as the other two but Girona is good for a weekend.
A bit like York but much better preserved historic buildings etc (presumably due to climate?).
Loads of nice restaurants and relatively cheap.
Funnily enough it attracts it's share of Spanish stag and hen do's but they behave very respectfully (imagine that!).

Krakow all the way
We went 3 years ago, loved it, Auschwitz, salt mines, we also went on a walking tour from & visiting areas where the pianist was filmed, ending up at Schindlers factory

Beautiful city, stayed at a hotel facing the river, close to a castle, hopefully we'll go back in the next couple of years

Looks a lot worse than it is. you get a torch that hardly works and turns off all the time, so its mostly pitch black apart from when the torch flickers on and off. Really enjoyed it although you do genuinely panic when something touches you in the face in the dark, not like the UK escape rooms where its "find the combination to this box".

The shocks are basically static shocks rather than a real cattleprod.

We had a fortnight in Poland the summer before Covid. We based ourselves in Krakow but spent a weekend in Wroclaw and a couple of nights in Zakopane.

Fantastic holiday but too much to see for a weekend in Krakow.

A bit off point but we’re in Gdańsk this weekend. It’s a fantastic place, the architecture is amazing and the people are really lovely

And it’s cheap as chips. A meal for two with three beers was less than thirty quid

Went to the TU, Solidarity museum and that was incredible. This is a great place to visit and flights are often really cheap from Leeds

redblood: 😁😁😁
Details man, I need detail…….
What type of shoes were they?
Approx cost?
👠🥿🩴👡👟

🤣 Burst out laughing at you calling your good lady wife ‘Imelda Marcos mk2’. So funny.

Intrigued now.
How many pairs of shoes/boots have you indulged your wife in?
Total she possesses atm?

Before I go any further, I’d just like to congratulate you both on 50 years Mr & Mrs redblood!🥳
That’s wonderful.🥰👌🏻

Righteo, back on topic now. Well our lil side topic anyway. Oooopsy!🤣

Imelda: I’m dreadful for buying shoes too.🤭
Plus my other buying fetishes are: boots, handbags & purses!
👠👡👢👜🎒👝

I dunno who the equiv of Imelda is for excessive handbag & purse purchases tho. Do yous have any ideas?😵‍💫

I consider myself to be very lucky and fortunate that I have a lovely partner who indulges my fetishes/addictions.🙂
Sometimes immediately, sometimes a lil time down the line. See below……..

I VERY OCCASIONLY tell a lil white lie regarding my shoe, boot, handbag & purse purchases.😇
Which is sneaking them into the house and then days, weeks or months later when he MAY notice me wearing/carrying them, I tell him I’ve had them for absolutely ages!🤣
Saying “Remember when I went to xxxxx (town/shops) last xxxxx (week/month) with the girls, well I……. blah de blah de blah.”☺️

Now you’ve already seen on this thread, that I can rattle for England yeah 😁🤣 well, I think he then starts switching off to my story and I notice a glazed expression appearing on his fizzog.🤣

Although sometimes I think he actually knows the truth but happily/mischievously/cheekily plays along. Bless him.😁🤣😎
Who’s kidding who here?!😗 Doh!🤣

Actually, to be fair, he does very kindly indulge me MOST of the time. When he asks what I’ve bought today and I tell him I bought a new handbag. The resigned shaking of his head is accompanied by laughing and he says “Like you really needed another handbag didn’t ya!”😁
My response is “yeah I do need another handbag cos I haven’t got one in this particular shade of xxxxx (colour) or this style, this shape, this brand/designer etc etc”.😁

Apologies for another long un from me on here 😗 Scroll down right past if doesn’t interest yous. Ta muchly. Sorry to natarlie too.
Especially as it’s nowt to do with Krakow really.Oooopsy!☺️
xx
