I wasn’t sure what to think about coming here…

I felt uneasy about going on holiday to an area affected by the war in Ukrainian.. but I’ve seen the kindness they are showing those people displaced from their home… I’ve donated in tip jars, I’ve talked to locals and Ukrainians and they’ve all welcomed tourists..

we had an impromptu tour of a St. John hospitaliers church from a monk after I looked through the door into a wonderful religious building.. he told us how there were 8 monks looking after the Church and administering and running the attached hospital.. also how they run a hostel that is full of Ukrainians, all the while he longed to show us his building and practice his English… even supporting a poor alcoholic who tried begging from me…. I’m not religious but was thankful that the monk offered to pray for me and my wife that night…

I also felt uneasy visiting auschwitz while On a ‘holiday’nbut was very moved by the futility of it all…

the food has been fantastic and the locals very friendly…

the city is not the prettiest but it has a brutalist beauty… I’m sure I will be back some day…

it’s impressed me and moved up to my top 3 locations visited…

I had my stag there. Best 3 days of my life.

I visited about 8 years ago and thought it was a bit Meh. It was only a couple of years back when I went again that I appreciated how much of a lovely place it was.

I was there for my birthday in January and the heavy snow gave it a beauty - it was stunning. I love the people there too and so welcoming - in every cafe and restaurant we went to we were near treated in any other way but most welcome.
