That would only make sense if Wilder was a short term manager. I really doubt that he was supposed to be here less than a year.

But no, development requires minutes in the 1st team. You could make a good case that Muniz isn't blocking Coburn because he was going on loan anyway but we signed 2 other strikers that were then behind him in the pecking order.

Roberts was player of the year at his last club. Should be starting if he is to develop.

Mowatt and Giles you can justify because we were really short in those areas.

Another justification is if there is a realistic chance of converting the loan to a permanent. Not sure we could afford any of them if we wanted them permanently.

The defence needs strengthening to make it a lower end/mid table prem side imo

That team is way better than our current one. Not even close. If Monk was managing it then the current team has a chance but those players with the same manager would win 9/10. I'm not sure a single player from the current team gets in that one. Maybe this version of Howson is better than that one but the rest aren't even close. Madness how bad we did with that squad. Criminally under performed.

Steffen vs Randolph - Steffen wins hands down
Dijksteel vs Shotton - Dijksteel gets the nod
Fry vs Ayala - very similar imo. Mentality vs Metatarsal too close to call
Lenihan vs Gibson - this should be a no brainier in favour of Gibson.. Is it?
Giles vs Friend - No disrespect wpbut George was immense
Howson vs Howson - like a fine wine 2022 is a fine vintage
Hackney vs Forshaw - he's getting there.. if not already
Jones vs Adama - tough one but I'm giving Jones the benefit
Akpom vs Downing - Chuba is a new man, Downing was done dirty by managers..
McGree vs Bamford - Bamford was great for us, McGree is still getting better.
Watmore vs Braithwaite - should be a no brainier.. but it isn't. a fully fit Duncan is the don

4 or 5 players? A few controversial decisions.. Jones and Watmore
I could argue a case for Lenihan and Akpom and the boo boys would agree.
