Key Workers

The pressure on my Mrs, who is a headteacher is massive at the moment, she’s getting ready for the onslaught today of parents who need to work to support their families but fall outside the key workers criteria, at present there is no information on what schools will be open to provide provision for the children of key workers, the required staffing levels, tie ins with other schools, she will be expected to work the Easter holidays, beyond that she has the concern that families will be left short with reliance on vouchers to replace free school meals, she has had instances this week of parents breaking down as they don’t know how they will cope, that is without concerns of how prolonged periods outside education and normal school interaction will impact on the children themselves.

It hasn't been handled well. Also as AM points out it puts massive pressure on the schools to sort this out in one working day.

For some Teesside schools this could equate to 50 to 60% of the school population. It is really important schools play a front line toll in keeping the country upright as we fight this crisis but as more and more staff and their extended families isolate maintaining a provision for such a large group will become impossible probably as we hit the eye of the storm. I’m not looking at this from a teachers viewpoint, they are some of the lucky ones still being paid but purely from a central government policy stance. By sticking so many peopld into this ‘key workers’ group and saying it is only has to be one parent in a family they will overwhelm the system and it will quickly become unsustainable

Just took some rubbish to the bin as my neighbour, a school teacher, was coming home and he both looked and said he's absolutely done in trying to organise online home-schooling in just a day or so. He seemed absolutely bewildered and admitted he's completely lost as to how to manage the situation. It's probably not the right answer but we popped a bottle of wine on his doorstep a short while later. he looked like he needed to wind down and chill as best he can, at least for tonight. This isn't going away anytime soon so today's issues will still be there tomorrow, deal with them then
