To be fair, that would finish a lesser man with football for life.Didn't Strachan take him in and made him live with him and Mrs Strachan when he was at Coventry in an attempt to steer him away from the booze ?

Funny you should post about him as i was just talking about him yesterday with a colleague and his awful tackle at Sunderland it was like a flying drop kick at the corner flag.My abiding memory of him is a red card (against Coventry potentially)? It was an atrocious tackle, just in front of the tunnel. Didn't even turn around for the card, just walked straight off.
Def Whelan. When Whelan was at Boro I never really knew what a tearaway he was/had been.Didn't Strachan take him in and made him live with him and Mrs Strachan when he was at Coventry in an attempt to steer him away from the booze ?

I'm not sure that's correct aboutr Alan Moore is it? He was a very quiet ladThat's a really good point, they'd have surely got more games out of him even if he was never an "ever present". Although in terms of lifestyle, I'm not sure Andy Campbell can be put into the same box as O'Neill and Moore who it was known liked to drink and party (the 90's Aaron Connellys ?)
Definitely Noel Whelan, who I think is BBC Leeds’s Maddo these days. Remember when we signed him Strachan said he’ll enjoy it there with Robbo and Viv.I think that was noel whelan. I think WGS might have left Coventry before K O'N arrived.
K O'N was largely forgettable at Boro in an attacking sense, but he did like a crunching tackle
I used to see Campbell in Millennium all the time. That's a really good point, they'd have surely got more games out of him even if he was never an "ever present". Whelan was another I liked but who was never a fan favourite, remember his fantastic own goal at home to Coventry
Usually left wing back or left of the three in midfield for us but he was immense when he played center-forward at home to Wimbledon one game. He was everywhere!
He was. I'm sure he got on the end of his own cross at one point. Was it his first game back from injury or something? He was like a man possessed that day! I remember him going up and winning headers against his own team mates
Didn't Strachan take him in and made him live with him and Mrs Strachan when he was at Coventry in an attempt to steer him away from the booze ?
Strachan left Coventry shortly after O' Neill signed, about 5-6 games into the season.I think that was noel whelan. I think WGS might have left Coventry before K O'N arrived.

That's my memory of him too. I mean I liked the guy but the article makes out like he was some wayward genius like gazza. Makes a better read I guess.O'neill was never very good technically - he was a blood and thunder all or nothing type who relied on his youth and enthusiasm to power through games on
a physcial level
He would never have developed into an elegant midfielder capable of controlling games, he was never really that type of footballer
He certainly was a talented player, really highly rated when he broke through at Leeds, think he played in their FA Youth Cup side that beat the class of 92 in the final. Remember him being effective for Coventry too alongside Dublin and Darren Huckerby, always tried to sign Huckerby or his brother on Championship Manager back in the dayGiles reminded me of that OG vs Sheffield Utd earlier this season.
Here's a better NW memory for you. I think we were 2-0 down at the time, hence the understated celebrations.
