Just watched The Joker

Very dark, provocative and at times disturbing. Brilliant acting
I did the exact same thing tonight. I thought Joaquin Phoenix was really good but overall it was just OK in my opinion. I expected more from the hype and reviews that surrounded it when it came out.

I felt a little disappointed . Maybe I expected too much , but just ordinary To me . Perhaps it’s me wanting a se7en or such .

Masterclass in acting, a psychological study of sorts that delves into madness as opposed to the usual flippant (and mostly poor) DCU efforts. I can see why some think it is overblown but personally I thought it was deserving of the accolades it received. I do not think that there should be a sequel as has been mooted.

Great perfromance from pheonix but a pale imatation of Taxi Driver watch that film to see it done properly & throw in King of Comedy too to see it done right.

Great film, and proving even in the modern world you don't need extensive CGI (the asylum is the only CGI in the whole film.

This was just good old fashioned storytelling.

Over hyped for me too. Watched it last week. Was okay but some raved about it when it first came out. Felt a little all surface but no feeling and tad self indulgent to me.

Also watched The Grand Budapest Hotel, that was a visual treat for my eyes. Superb!

I enjoyed Joker, thought Phoenix was excellent but then I think he always is. The guy just has something.

I enjoyed The Grand Budapest Hotel but it was my least favourite Wes Anderson film so far. Life Aquatic, Darjeeling limited And The Royal Tenenbaums were all better in my opinion, but nowhere near as successful.

Agree with that , very unique with loads of dimensions ( bloody hell I sound like Mark Kermode ) 🤭

I felt lime they left it up.to the viewer to decide whether it was real, fantasy or a combination of both.

Ah right, I didn't think of that angle. interesting. I viewed it as everything after the truth comes out about his mother, girlfriend etc was to be not in his head / fantasy. But I understand where you are coming from.

Thought The Grand Budapest Hotel was fabulous. Always seem to get a good performance from Ralph Fiennes. Same with Joachim Phoenix - hardly ever see him put in a bad shift. Thought De Niro was very good in The Joker, too. However, the film as a whole was just okay imho. No more than that. Way too much navel gazing for my liking even if you couldn't fault the acting.

See the grand Budapest hotel was very good, it has all the whizz bang and whimsy that makes a good Wes Anderson film. But the really good ones like the royal tenembaums have a real emotional impact. For every "Your mother was a terribly attractive woman." There's an "I've had a tough year dad." It's incredible that it manages to be so moving whilst avoiding disappearing up its own ****.
