Just how highly Juninho is regarded.

A true great. The best and most entertaining player I have seen in a Boro shirt. Graeme Souness and the late great Willie Maddren to make up my top 3, but Juninho was very very special indeed. He took to Middlesbrough just like Middlesbrough took to him.
 
He was wonderful but by the same token we do understandably overrate him. But all clubs overrate “their own”, especially smaller clubs like ours.

I am not sure we did overrate him. He did get player of the year in the PL and was a wonderrful footballer. At the time, wherever I went, home or abroad, if the subject of me being a boro supporter came up, all people wanted to talk about was Juninho

Well not all of us do. Some people say he was the best in the world for a while etc. In my opinion that’s not true at all, but he was very good and definitely the best PL player in his position for one season.

He was largely a bit player in the brazil side and that was probably his world standing. Part of the reason he got so much attention here and abroad whilst playing for Middlesbrough was that, well he was playing for middlesbrough.

In 1995-96 he made 15 appearances for Brazil.

btw he was hardly the novelty Brazilian who joined little old Middlesbrough he was the best Brazilian mf of his generation who chose not to join Arsenal.
 
He was a joy to watch and the real catalyst for those crazy 00s spending. We will simply never see the likes off again.

He was the Brazilian young player of the year at the time. To think when Barca bought Naymar when he held that award.

I think Emerson often gets over looked. I would argue he had a 6 month spell where he was every bit as good if not better.
