Just caught 5 minutes of red nose day

It would be nice to see the accounts of Comic release to see what really goes where.

We used to used to sponsor kids abroad in 3rd World Countries, changing kids every 2 years. Then you get to thinking how much of my donation really gets to the child in question. I would prefer to get an address and send money that way knowing that the child would get the full amount without being skimmed. We were offered kids in India and Pakistan but hey if them countries can build Nukes they ain't getting my cash.

Cant knock its aims, or its track record, i just wish more people would give via ddm, just a few quid a month allows the charity to declare it as income and inturn give the charity a lot more financial flexiblity. Ive been giving to " The Plan" this way for 25 years and as its DDM you dont miss it.
Worked for a bank for a few years and avoided the branches on red nose day , so many dull gray people being wacky for me.

We can afford nukes, but people still go hungry. That's why I volunteer in a foodbank.

Try " The Plan", sounds like what you had before but monies go to local ( village or town) arrangements with next to nothing as a percentage used on " admin"

Mosquito nets and ak47's for everybody!

Wait, that's right isn't it? Comic Relief focuses more on the foreign countries whilst Children in Need focuses more on the UK?

I suppose one way of looking at it is that isn't the kids', or the charity's, decision to spend money on nukes that should be spent on stopping them from dying of starvation.

As ***** as it is, and now full of bland presenters...it’s still earning a few quid for those less fortunate. So just don’t watch it if it bothers you???

It’s a bloody good cause etc.

It is the height of hypocrisy. Lenny Henry, along with David Lammy MP, complained that 'White Saviours' always helping Africans out was belittling to black people. Gee thanks for that! I won't watch it because of the hypocrisy. Also the amount of money that seems to be spent on armouring factions that are continuously at war with each other makes me quite cynical of the whole thing, sadly.
I never knew that.

13.7 million spent on staff costs.

Comic relief is a registered charity and has nothing to do with the BBC just like Children in need.
I think BBC should put a disclaimer to that effect.

Nothing except that it gets a few hours of BBC broadcasting time.
And Sainsburys gets more bang for its advertising buck than anywhere else

Of course any charity has expenses but when you see the big boss getting 200K you have to wonder what his charitable thoughts are ?

Then we have the Oxfam scandal and what they got up to in Haiti etc.
If you want to give a 10er or even more out. Just give it to you local food bank or even buy the food yourself and give it. I just don't trust these whole celebrity charitythons.
And Lenny himself says he doesn't want it.

I mean would you give it if you knew that YOUR tenner went in to TWs bank account.

By TW you mean Terry Wogan? Yes he was an exception wasn't he? Its on record that none of the CiN (or Comic Relief) presenters get a fee.

On your general argument on whether we ahould be giving money at all to charities promoted by big corporates. Many UK charities rely on business support either through cash or manpower and fundraising via their employees. Thats not ideal but thats the way it is. And should we donate to charities that aren't local? Why not? I give regularly to my local foodbank but I also wish to help overseas charities. Charitable giving should not be restricted by local boundaries domestic or International. Its personal choice.

Nukes...That’s why I’m totally in-line with PM Johnson on this one. We must expand our nuclear capacity.
If for one reason only. We. Must. Protect. Our. World.Beating. Foodbanks
