Showed in 15 mins what we have been missing. Really hard to put your finger on what he does so brilliantly, but he just makes us tick.

He creates tempo and shows that 'energy' is not all about lung bursting runs, but can also be short little pass and moves. He always checks his shoulder, 99% of the time he keeps it simple. A master at retaining possession in tight spaces and can thread the needle so brilliantly. Hackney, who I thought looked below his brilliant best and a little too keen to impress needs him there I think. Barlaser needs to watch every second that Jonny is on the pitch and just soak up all that experience and know how.

I'm not one for footballing heroes generally, but by God I love Jonny Howson.

Taking Coulson off gave Millwall the space they needed to overload the left and get the goal. Yes, we need Howson on the pitch but Carrick learned a harsh lesson today and that is bringing on novice players only can end in one way and that is conceding goals. Granted Paddy missed the tackle which led to the goal but the sub decisions ultimately led to our defeat.

Totally agree. It’s like Carrick thought, I know this creates danger for us taking off coulson because millwall was a tough opener but I’d rather go for the win than settle for a draw
