Johnson takesover Brexit talks

someone infiltrated my account 😳
You mean you didn't write this?

I must admit, Brexit does look to have been a dreadful mistake. I'm afraid I was taken in by some convincing liars who knew how to play people and tell us what we wanted to hear, trusting our emotions would overpower reason, especially since it fed into an unchallenged narrative spun for decades as well as a basic tribal distrust of others, which is a trait seen in Conservatives in particular. Not a bad instinct a lot of the time, but I should have exercised some better judgement in this case, given the importance of the decision, and actually looked into matters in more detail. But I was lazy, biased and the media didn't understand much either, so did a poor job holding the brexit talking heads to account. I suppose I should have paused for thought when my side was telling us ignoring experts was a good idea. I mean, when has that EVER been a good idea?!

All I can do now is actually put some extra effort in to lessen the impact on all those I helped inflict this on and campaign to at least get us back in the Single Market, which was in fact what was promised and what most people wanted, so a proper exercise of democracy.

This was always going to happen. "Frosty" and Barnier will have been operating with certain limits on what they can agree to. These limits are obviously incompatible so they need to escalate to their bosses.

My gut feeling is there'll be a deal, however Johnson dresses it up, he'll compromise to get one. The reported sticking points aren't worth the damage to the economy. Particularly now. He'll push it to the brink in the hope the EU capitulate, but he'll cave eventually.

Of course there's a chance we'll get no deal but it would be an absolute disaster and he knows it. I suppose the question is does he care? There are probably some fairly shady people behind the scenes who'd love no deal and will no doubt be pushing for it. But does Johnson really want to remembered as the man who wrecked the country and the worst PM of all time, by some distance? I think and hope that his ego is big enough that he'll do what is necessary to stop that happening.

I thought on the back of some positive comments regarding that statement I’d just let it ride.

I haven’t made any pro brext comments since

Never thought I'd find myself agreeing with an ex-Sun editor.

David Yelland:

"We've lost all self-awareness as a country and I'm afraid parts of UK media have too. Brexit's obvious disaster is our fault, not Macron's. If you voted Leave you are complicit. You were fooled."

My understanding festa is that the EU, whilst willing to continue negotiations, obviously, its important to their economy too, have said that without agreement by yesterday there is no chance of having a deal ratified by the 1st of January. It is almost certain that we initially leave with no deal for the first month or so.

It really is sad what the hubris of Johnson has led to.

Whatever Johnson and Co. try to finesse in this 'deal' it's going to leave the UK on the bare bones of it's collective ar$e...No Deal removes the bones.
One thing thing that should be remembered, engraved in fact, is the reason why this debacle was initially instigated and is continuing to it's death... is the preservation of the Conservative Party. They've seen off May and her, what now looks like a bit of a lifeline deal, the swivel eyed tendency are on Johnson's case.
They've all known for a long time the end result of this action, now behind the bravado they're really starting to look scared. Hence the manoeuvres and ramping up of the blame game...trying to fit anyone, and everything into the frame.
Of course the most depressing thing of all is. They will probably get away with it

Or you could listen to Corbyn

I know many of us were fully aware of how difficult getting a decent deal would be. Just a pity that the Country is so full of the gullible and the stupid who so easily fell for the lies of the Brexiteers. It’s almost like a religion in that so many, no matter what the evidence presented to them that they were lied to, keep insisting that we will thrive outside the EU even without a deal. We won’t, it will be awful, even with a sh@tty last minute deal. Boris will claim any deal to be a triumph but it is much more likely to be a capitulation. We get the politicians and the press we deserve.

Suggesting making a crucial and fundamental change would mean some significant changes was project fear, remember.
