Johnson bailing out the Queen & Co

The elite protect themselves, always have, always will. When will Joe Public recognise this and boot the Tories into touch and fight for our freedom in a republic

The Queen is ceremonial rather than anything else. I doubt she has any real power to intervene in reality (1707). To suggest she is looking after the elite is ridiculous imho. The Government are the idiots and need to receive the grief

In the middle of a crisis that has thousands of people in dire straits and relying on charity to live and with unemployment figures expected to reach over 4 million putting further people in trouble, gifting money to an organisation that has a net worth of over £72.5 billion seems corrupt and unnecessary, the basis of society should always be how well off and looked after your poorest members are not how rich and pampered your elite is.

No doubt in exchange she'll give the Royal Assent to anything Johnson puts under her nose now ......including a certain bill breaking an international treaty

Can you give me one just one instance when the monarch has refused royal assent

Ill give you 100 years but maybe another 100 before that just to reinforce the point.

If you hard leftys were not so ignorant people might just might listen to you once in a while

Queen Anne in 1707 was the last occasion that Royal Assent was refused.

Mmm, it’s about still being able to have the final say as an unelected unaccountable authority isn’t it?

They could start to use that power at any time and probably would if they thought they could get away with it.

Interesting documentary about this the other night, which suggested quite the opposite. Although she's 'sold' to us as a modern Queen, in reality she can and does have an influence even if its not explicit.

The convention is it's a formality. She is expected to give royal assent to anything, whatever she thinks of it.

However this government sees quite happy to drive a coach and horses through what is conventionally expected of them. So would most people really bat an eyelid if the Queen did the same?

I said the elite look after themselves. In this case the government are looking after the queen and protecting her income.

But if you think the royal family have no power then you are not really paying attention. They have wealth, influence, property and access to government information. They have plenty of power and it continues to increase their wealth.

Watch the programme. 1707 may be the last time they had an 'official'/direct impact, but much more recently they have had an unofficial influence. Arguably more scary, especially given that no one is ever allowed to know what is said when the Queen meets the PM.

The fact that the people seem willing, by and large, to accept that everything is just a formality and that she never discusses anything political or tries to use her influence over the PM, is a truly remarkable achievement on her behalf.

I think you are reading far more into my comments than are there. It was about her freedom and likelihood to refuse Royal Assent. Yes she is wealthy, yes she and her family are well connected. I can not see Boris Johnson, Michael Gove, Dominic Cummings giving two hoots to Queenies thoughts on any government bill requiring Royal Assent in reality. The time when interference may be more interesting is if and when Charles becomes King, but I doubt even he would refuse.

Got a link or even channel and title?

You do realise that the queen holds discussions with the PM on a weekly basis and can inform a PM that royal assent will not be given if something is put forward that harms them, or doesn't secede more wealth to them. There is no need to deny royal ascent because there measures to make sure it never gets to that.
