John Peel Festive Fifty

Yeah used listen to it avidly every year from the late 70's to early eighties, I think he would do the count down over a few nights, btw Geek Love us a brilliant tune

Googled it, this is from his Wikipedia- I didn’t know, oh dear, wrong un.

“Peel told The Guardian in 1975, regarding his relations with young women, "All they wanted me to do was abuse them, sexually, which, of course, I was only too happy to do."[38][39] He told The Sunday Correspondent in 1989, "Girls used to queue up outside. By and large not usually for shagging. Oral sex they were particularly keen on, I remember. [...] One of my, er, regular customers, as it were, turned out to be 13, though she looked older”

Joy Division used the walk it, when I listened.

JP's festive fifty was the ultimate cool thing when I was 17 in my circles.

It changed for the better when it stopped being "all time" favourites and was restricted to tracks from just that year. Early 1980s I think.

I remember Conor Oberst being lambasted for having a go at John Peel during a Glastonbury set years back (prior to the renaming, post his death I think) and they invited him (Oberst) back a couple of years later so maybe knew there was something in it?

Yes, Conor was given the cold shoulder by the Glastonbury team for daring to verbally attack Peel.
Hope he is invited back this year too - he is in the country
