Joe Lumley is ok

I think the point is we seem to have 2 or 3 very nervous moments in each game, the peril he creates must make our CBs very nervous, other than lumley we look calm, assured, and solid at the back. Yes we have the occasional moment as all proslfessional sportspeople do but I'd say Lumley regularly puts us in dangerous situations in lots of games. He seems to have way more confidence than ability. For me I'd much prefer lumley to just hoof it, I don't want to play hoof ball at all but if we can minimise those dangerous situation, I think we would turn several draws to wins and wins to draws over the course of a season.
We saw this at old Trafford on a huge night for the club and yet right from the off he made a huge error of judgement that really should have seen us 1-0 down in the first minute.

It was the same style of error that did cost us at qpr so it’s not a one off he does it regularly and it will cost us.

He used to 'just hoof it' until Wilder came. There is clearly now an instruction to play out from the back. The whole team looked nervy about this for several games at least and often almost played us into trouble. The outfield players have now settled into this way of playing, more quickly than Lumley but that is to be expected. Add to this that by nature of the way we now play there are more balls going back to him. He'll get there I'm sure.

Hope so, but I'd rather we changed the keeper next year, I certainly buy into the style, but I don't think Lumley fits that style and we may just have to accept that next year is the year we can really push for promotion with a new man in goal.

There’s no way Lumley will be our keeper next season, wilder has already dropped him once.

Wilder doesn’t do poor keepers never has.

We seem to be overlooking the point Wilder made about three errors in this goal.
1. Jones over hit a pass back to Dijksteel.
2. Dijksteel miscontrolled the pass and under pressure passed back to Lumley.
3. Lumley completely under hits pass to McNair. The rest is history.

Yes the other two were slight errors, but it still gave the keeper plenty of time to either make a pass or just get rid of it. The mistake is 100% on Lumley

Not buying this one, Lumley had plenty of time to deal with the back pass, he just makes the wrong decision time and time again. It’s almost as though he just gets too excited and has to get involved and nearly always to the detriment of the team.

I think these two posts ring true. He’s here right now trying to adapt to Wilders style of play. There’s always mistakes like at QPR even with top keepers moving to a passing out from back style. I’m not excusing other errors however, but I don’t think he’s as bad as some claim. We’ll see though.

That said, unless Lumley has a miraculously fantastic end to the season, Wilder will be on the hunt for a new keeper in the summer when prices and options will be more reasonable than they usually are in January.

Worth adding the thoughts of the QPR reporter, widely and rightly lauded on a separate thread.
"Exactly the sort of concentration failure we became so sadly used to when he played for us. Joe Lumley in a nutshell. Fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, OH MY GOD THE PIPER ALPHA’S ON FIRE".

Can tell the defenders dont trust him, he flaps far too much and certainly isnt a ball playing keeper which Wilder wants. The saves he makes seem to be straight at him. He has cost us goals and will cost many more, QPR being the perfect example

We had these conversations regularly until I think Ikeme? Then eventually Dimi ended them.

They've continued since Randolph left.

Didn’t say anyone wants him to make a mistake but if he does happen to make one watch this board light up with I told you he’s this and that.
